Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: - Basic medical/surgical relevant and current experience Description: This role involves floating between multiple units, including medical and surgical units. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6. Total care is provided with no patient care assistants involved. There is no telemetry; only occasional strip readings are expected. The facility will transition to a new electronic medical record system in November 2026. Experience in a large hospital setting is necessary. The unit has 128 beds. Common patient diagnoses include surgical services such as colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, orthopedic, and medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney, and gastrointestinal issues. RNs are not required to titrate drips. There is a charge nurse on each shift who takes an assignment. Nurse aides and patient care technicians are present, with varying ratios and duties. Respiratory support is readily available to assist with vent equipment. Tele-monitoring is done remotely; RNs do not have to read their own strips. Staff is assigned to areas based on need, and weekend work is required every other week. There is no holiday work or call requirements. Floating is required to any medical/surgical pod. The dress code is navy scrubs, and scrubs are not provided. Unit-specific orientation consists of three shifts. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts during the 13-week assignment. Charting is done using the Cerner system. Trauma level of the facility is 2. Care setting is acute. The position falls under the nursing division.
