Construction Painter / Skilled Laborer — Employees and Subcontractors Welcome

Location: Toledo, Ohio and surrounding areas, including Southeast Michigan
Position Types: Full-time W-2 employee or independent subcontractor
Employee Pay: $18–$25 per hour, based on experience, reliability, and production
Subcontractor Pay: Negotiated per project and scope of work

About the Opportunity

Ben Smith Construction is looking for dependable, productive construction professionals who take pride in their work. We are accepting applications from individuals interested in joining our crew as W-2 employees, as well as established subcontractors interested in receiving additional projects.

Our work includes residential and commercial painting, property repairs, pressure washing, roofing repairs, and general construction.

We offer our team freedom and respect, but we expect responsibility, communication, quality workmanship, and steady production in return.

Responsibilities

• Interior and exterior painting
• Scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, and surface preparation
• Drywall patching and minor carpentry repairs
• Pressure washing and exterior cleaning
• Roofing and property-maintenance work
• Loading, unloading, and organizing materials
• Maintaining clean and safe jobsites
• Taking progress and completion photographs
• Following project scopes and communicating with management
• Completing quality work within agreed schedules

Employee Requirements

• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Strong work ethic and consistent production
• Ability to work without constant supervision
• Respectful attitude toward customers and coworkers
• Willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback
• Reliable transportation to the shop or assigned jobsite
• Valid driver’s license strongly preferred
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work from ladders
• Painting or construction experience preferred

Applicants without extensive experience may be considered if they are dependable, motivated, and genuinely willing to learn.

Subcontractor Requirements

Subcontractors should have:

• An established business or independent contracting operation
• General liability insurance
• Workers’ compensation coverage when legally required
• Their own reliable transportation, tools, and equipment
• Experience completing painting, roofing, repair, or construction projects
• The ability to provide estimates or accept projects based on an agreed scope
• Reliable communication and scheduling
• Professional conduct on occupied residential and commercial properties
• References or photographs of completed work

Subcontractors control their own work methods and may accept or decline projects. Compensation, materials, deadlines, and project requirements will be agreed upon before each job begins.

Jobsite Expectations

Ben Smith Construction maintains a professional, safety-focused workplace. No employee or subcontractor may work while impaired or use alcohol, marijuana, dab pens, or other intoxicating substances during working hours, in company vehicles, or on customer property.

Repeated lateness, unexplained absences, poor communication, unsafe conduct, unacceptable workmanship, or failure to meet agreed production expectations will not be accepted.

Schedule

Employee work is generally performed during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Start times, locations, and weekly hours may vary based on workload, weather, and project deadlines.

Subcontractor schedules and completion deadlines will be established separately for each project.
