Intelligence Operations Officer
The College's intent is to hire two (2) temporary Intelligence Operations Officers (IOOs) to augment our current surveillance capabilities. Following the arson incident on December 30, 2024, at approximately 0300 hours, the College President has mandated 24/7 camera monitoring whenever possible to ensure the continued safety of the campus community. At the time of the incident, only two PSOs were on duty, and active camera monitoring was not possible. Our current staff of two IOOs provides 80 hours of coverage per week. To meet the new 168-hour weekly requirement, additional personnel are required immediately. These positions will be during the afternoon/night shift hours.
Job Duties/Key Responsibilities:
- Monitors, conducts surveillance and examines various systems for security purposes. Such systems may include video/camera systems, access controls, and various media networks, including news and social.
- Provides back-up to Public Safety Officers to include patrolling of campus, providing information and assistance to public, assisting in emergency procedures such as locating persons, providing first aid for injuries and minor illnesses, aiding in the evacuation of buildings during emergency situations, and all other public safety duties, as assigned.
- Conducts daily monitoring of College's social media outlets for potential and/or active threats.
- Searches for and gathers information from a wide variety of social media sites; including, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. and performs geo-location of pertinent data.
- Ensures documentation of the Clery Daily Crime Log.
- Identifies and tracks key threat websites.
- Runs diagnostic tests to assure proper function and integrity of websites.
- Serves as a user contact and consultant to answer questions, interpret technical information, identify needs, provide information, education and technical services, troubleshoot and make referrals to other technical resource persons.
- Monitors the Public Safety webpage to ensure that web content stays current and is reviewed in a timely manner.
- Keeps current on pertinent information, market trends and practices; pursuing professional development opportunities to advance knowledge and expertise.
- Responsible for troubleshooting camera issues.
- Prepares video/camera material for trials, reports, etc.
- Applies area knowledge, advanced computer use and web research expertise to provide near real-time tactical Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) from social media information and social media analysis in support of current police and risk management operations.
- Conducts both large scale media analysis and in-depth comprehensive research and assessments of specific targets.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal/external constituencies to promote the success of established short- and long-term objectives and goals.
- Provides workshops and other in-service activities for faculty and staff on technology related subjects.
- Serves on college and departmental committees related to computing and/or related Public Safety objectives.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Supervisor-Public Safety Health & Medical Services and Emergency Operations related to Public Safety goals and the mission of the College.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
- One year of security, public safety, or law enforcement experience.
- Experience monitoring, surveilling and examining various systems for security purposes. Such systems may include video/camera systems, access controls, and various media networks, including news and social.
- Working knowledge of cameras and computers, web searching and information gathering to a broad range of media, including familiarity with video recording software. Must have the ability to troubleshoot various problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Experience using standard word processing software, such as MS Word.
- Demonstrated dependability, reliability, professionalism, and ethical behavior.
- Must maintain a valid Michigan Driver's license and have a good driving record for the past 5 years. A good driving record must be maintained while employed as a Intelligence Operations Officer.
- Must possess the ability to work under high stress environment/situations.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills and demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use discretion in regard to matters of confidentiality, interactions and decision-making.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move about the campus while also having the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time during the assigned shift.
- Must be able to work for extended periods of time on the computer, and, with or without accommodation, be able to distinguish colors, shapes and layout design.
- Ability to add numbers and write narrative criminal, non-criminal, injury and other reports in English using correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical procedure manuals.
- Ability to prepare a daily activity log in English, using correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
- Ability to listen effectively to person or persons talking about a matter that requires one to make a decision as well as the ability to interview a person or persons in order to separate facts from opinion and first-hand knowledge from hearsay.
- Ability to recognize and use regular and military time.
- Ability to detect people talking in a normal voice without directly looking at them, either over the telephone or in person (within a distance of 6 feet).
- Visual ability, corrected, to observe and detect person(s) motor vehicles and tornado funnel clouds from great distances away (at least 600 feet) in the daylight.
- Visual ability to read in daylight and with the aid of a flashlight at night, items used by person(s) for identification; such as driver's licenses, school identification cards, and social security cards etc.
- Visual ability to read motor vehicle license plate letters and numbers at night with the aid of motor vehicle headlights from a distance of 10 feet.
- Ability to operate a passenger automobile, station wagon, 4-wheel and 2-wheel drive Jeep type vehicles, and pickup truck on emergency responses.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate's Degree in computer science, information systems, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Experience working in an educational organization.
- Familiarity with criminal activity mapping.
- Certification in, or demonstrated ability to, maintenance, configuration and troubleshooting of video camera systems.
