Registered CT Tech

Overview Performs CT imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as instructed. Responsibilities Maintains equipment for proper diagnostic imaging. Maintains equipment by cleaning daily. Notes any system problems to alert service engineer. Sets up and adjusts equipment dependent on the exam. Sets up equipment and calibrates unit. Sets control according to exam standard for slice thickness and bed increment. Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements. Goes to waiting room, dressing rooms, and corridors to accept patient. Assesses patient needs to determine proper handling. Explains procedure to patients to prepare them for the examination. Assists in the administration and administers various chemical substances to render specific organs or systems more opaque. Utilizes Isovue 300 by 100 ml for contrast head exams. Utilizes Isovue 300 by 150 ml for chest, abdomen, and pelvis contrast exams. Mixes oral contrast prior to administration of exam. Performs IV access, using sterile technique, for administration of contrast. Reviews patient charts and requests with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained. Reviews patient charts checking physician orders. Reviews patient request before start of exam. Reviews with the Radiologist requests and charts for proper examination. Communicates with patient units to assure timely transport and completion of exam request. Quality controls all images, maintains inventory, and adheres to safety regulations. Participates in training of department personnel, including students. Checks all images to assure quality of exam. Checks inventory of contrast, IV supplies and paper products daily. Essential Functions Adheres to safety regulations for both patient and employee safety. Trains department personnel, including students, on how to perform a CAT Scan. Must be available for on call status, as needed, after normal operating hours. Will be available on the hospital premises within 45 minutes of notification of need. Carries the beeper at all times when on call. Will notify hospital personnel of any unusual circumstances which may affect availability. Utilizes the photo phone to transmit images to the radiologist on call, following the instructions on the unit. Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts. Reviews exam request to determine area of interest. Refers to exam guidelines for necessary views. Uses practical knowledge of anatomy for proper positioning to obtain maximum diagnostic information, as evidenced by the film taken. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards. All required safety education programs have been attended. Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed. Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards. Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment. Assures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures. Attends annual education programs. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Interacts with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by manager and peers. Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and hospital policy. Continuously displays a “can do” attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at the hospital. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter-and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Participates in staff meetings as determined by manager. Supports the hospital’s mission, policies and procedures through attendance and participation at committee meetings, if applicable. Utilizes automated system to communicate inter- and intradepartmentally, as appropriate. Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments. Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled. Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree in Radiology from approved program required. Work Experience: Up to 1 year required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Basic Computer Skills. ALARA guidelines. Must be able to meet hospital on‑call requirements. Licenses and Certifications: Registration by the A.A.R.T. and state licensed. Registered or Registry eligible in CT, with requirement to become Registered within 18 months.
