Lumber Yard Operations Manager

Full-Time 45h/wk $58.50k to $65.52k/year Casual Attire Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3pm, occasional Saturdays as needed Von Tobel, a 100% employee-owned building materials supplier with over 60 years of service, is seeking a Lumber Yard Operations Manager to lead daily yard operations at our Michigan City, IN location. This position works closely with the General Manager to oversee inventory, safety, equipment, deliveries, and operations team performance while maintaining a clean, organized, and customer-focused lumber yard environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, operational knowledge, and the ability to manage a fast-paced building materials operation. What You Will Do Lead daily lumber yard and warehouse operations Supervise and support the operations team across yard, inventory, and delivery functions Maintain safe, organized, and customer-focused yard operations Oversee inventory accuracy, receiving, storage, and material handling processes Coordinate fleet, forklift, and equipment maintenance and compliance Ensure timely and accurate customer deliveries Train and develop team members on safety procedures and operational expectations Partner with the General Manager on staffing, scheduling, and performance management of yard staff and drivers Maintain compliance with company policies and DOT requirements Qualifications & Experience 3+ years of supervisory or management experience with direct reports Experience in lumber, building materials, warehouse, or yard operations preferred Forklift certification or powered industrial truck experience required CDL or for-hire endorsement preferred but not required Knowledge of DOT regulations preferred Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to read shipping documents, bills of materials, and operational paperwork Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 100 pounds Ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, and perform physical yard activities throughout the workday Must successfully complete a post-offer physical assessment Why Join Von Tobel?
