Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for the overall integrity, accuracy, and timely reporting of the Company's financial information and for managing the day-to-day accounting function. This is a hands-on accounting leadership role responsible for the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, cash management, account reconciliations, payroll accounting, internal controls, audit support, and related accounting and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly in the general ledger while also supervising and developing accounting staff. Experience with Epicor Kinetic is strongly preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & General Accounting

• Manage the general ledger and ensure the trial balance remains accurate and in balance.

• Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.

• Verify Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable general ledger balances agree to their respective subledgers.

• Review general ledger activity, investigate discrepancies and unusual transactions, and prepare required journal entries.

• Maintain appropriate controls over accounting periods and ensure prior periods remain properly closed.

• Run and review WIP Capture and other required Epicor Kinetic accounting processes.

• Provide management with financial analysis, including actual-to-budget and prior-year comparisons.

Month-End & Year-End Close

• Lead and manage the monthly financial close process and ensure required reports are generated at the proper cutoff dates.

• Perform and/or review bank reconciliations and reconcile other asset and liability accounts.

• Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, payroll entries, vacation accruals, and other closing adjustments.

• Maintain organized month-end closing schedules and supporting documentation.

• Coordinate year-end closing and preparation for the annual financial statement audit.

Cash, Banking & Borrowing

• Maintain and monitor daily cash position, cash disbursement, and related cash-flow reporting.

• Record and reconcile fund transfers and maintain supporting banking documentation.

• Monitor the Company's revolving line of credit and reconcile bank balances to the general ledger.

• Prepare and/or review borrowing-base calculations and provide management with weekly availability reporting.

• Assist management with cash forecasting and liquidity planning.

• Maintain appropriate controls over petty cash and company purchasing-card activity.

Payroll & Employee-Related Accounting

• Review payroll prior to submission and maintain the ability to process payroll when necessary.

• Review payroll GL interfaces and prepare related journal entries and month-end payroll schedules.

• Reconcile payroll-related accounts, vacation/PTO balances, and related accruals.

• Assist with 401(k), Safe Harbor Match, employee savings deductions, and payroll-related employee questions.

Accounting Department Leadership & Internal Controls

• Supervise and provide leadership to accounting personnel and establish clear responsibilities, deadlines, and accountability.

• Review the work of accounting staff and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely.

• Develop and maintain effective internal accounting controls, segregation of duties, and financial-system access controls.

• Identify opportunities to improve, standardize, and automate accounting processes and month-end procedures.

Audit, Insurance & Compliance

• Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and provide schedules and supporting documentation to auditors.

• Coordinate lender/bank audits and other reporting requirements.

• Assist with state audits, Workers' Compensation audits, and other regulatory requests.

• Coordinate Property & Casualty and Accounts Receivable insurance renewals.

• Coordinate annual 401(k)/Form 5500 requirements.

• Participate in and oversee accounting procedures related to year-end physical inventory.

Education & Experience

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including Controller, Assistant

Controller, Accounting

Manager, or comparable responsibilities.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, accrual accounting, and internal controls.

• Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close.

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.

• Working knowledge of Epicor Kinetic or comparable ERP systems; direct Epicor Kinetic experience is strongly preferred.

Preferred

• CPA preferred.

• MBA preferred.

• Direct experience with Epicor Kinetic.

• Experience in manufacturing, importing, distribution, wholesale, consumer products, or a similar inventory-based environment.

• Experience with inventory accounting, WIP, landed costs, asset-based lending, borrowing-base certificates, and revolving credit facilities.

• Prior experience supervising an accounting department.

Skills & Competencies

The successful candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented while maintaining a strong understanding of the broader financial picture of the business. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to meet strict closing deadlines, excellent Excel and financial-system skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with senior management, banks, auditors, employees, and outside professionals.

This is a hands-on Controller position. The Controller is expected to understand the underlying transactions, investigate discrepancies, prepare entries and reconciliations when necessary, and take ownership of the accuracy and integrity of the Company's financial statements.
