JOB SUMMARY :

· Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services the Respiratory Care Therapist will administer treatments, perform patient assessments and management of home care, diagnostic evaluations and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, and assist with the staff education and departmental quality assurances program.

· Key functions of the position address the population served by the department include neonates, through geriatrics.

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

· Aerosolized medication delivery per nebulizer

· Oxygen therapy per nasal cannula with SPO2

· Volume expansion therapy, incentive Spirometer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Upon receipt of physician’s order the Respiratory Therapist will:

· Promptly deliver aerosolized medication, oxygen therapy, volume expansion therapy, initiate non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, document all required information in patients’ chart, and participate in all CPR events.

· The therapist will make arrangements with DME companies for patients’ respiratory care needs at home, perform after hours EKGs and PFTs clean any needed equipment and keep it in ready condition, provide patient/family education as well as staff education when needed, maintain a positive, friendly working attitude.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Successful completion of an approved Respiratory Care Program Credentialed or eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care Licensed by the State of Indiana.

· Must maintain current licensure by completing all educational requirements through the State of Indiana.

· Must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire and remain current.

· Must obtain PALS and NRP within 1 year of hire and remain current.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS :

· Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding to codes, monitors, pagers, phones, equipment alarms or patients calling for assistance, ability to auscultate B/P.

· Lift to 50 lbs independently and for weights greater than 50 lbs must use mechanical device or team lifting.

· Manual dexterity, as used for performing intricate procedures, assembling medical equipment, caring for patients, typing, etc.

· Push/Pull patients of up to 250 lbs in a wheeled device and for weights greater than 250 lbs must use team assistance.

· Push/pull carts, medical equipment, supplies up to 23 lbs. on varied surfaces including smooth and carpet

· Squatting and bending at waist to reach under beds, repetitive crouching as needed

· Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling as needed more than 2/3 of day

· Up/down one flight of stairs as needed throughout hospital

· Vision requirements include but are not limited to close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. This may include ability to read thermometers, electronic scales, etc.

EQUIPMENT USED : Oximeters, ventilators invasive and non-invasive, EKG machine, PFT machine, disposable respiratory care equipment, computers, telephones, pagers, fax machine, Pyxis.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Associate will: Spend much of the 12-hour shift walking and standing Work in a high stress environment which deals with death and dying as well as chronic illness in patients of all ages.
