Job Description

This role supports the safe and efficient operation of extrusion machines by assisting with setup, changeovers, and daily production activities. You will work with hand and power tools, handle raw materials, operate a sit-down forklift after training, and help maintain clean and well-functioning equipment in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setting up and running extrusion machines according to production requirements and safety procedures.
• Use hand and power tools, including wrenches and impact wrenches, to set up machines and change out parts as needed.
• Load raw materials into containers or hoppers that feed the extrusion machines, ensuring continuous material supply.
• Monitor pallets of raw materials and use a sit-down forklift to retrieve additional materials from inventory when supplies run low.
• Clean equipment and machine components during part changeouts and as part of routine housekeeping to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Support production activities in areas such as plastics extrusion, plastic injection molding, and compounding as directed.
• Handle raw materials safely and accurately, acting as a material handler when required.
• Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines, including the use of required personal protective equipment.
• Collaborate with a small team of operators, leads, and supervisors on each shift to meet production goals.
• Be available for possible weekend work if business needs require it.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience using hand and power tools, such as drills and wrenches, to set up or adjust machinery.
• Basic production and machine operation experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to learn and operate a sit-down forklift; formal forklift training will be provided.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools, equipment, and moving mechanical parts.
• Ability to handle raw materials and perform material handling tasks safely and efficiently.
• Capability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and quality standards.
• Reliability in attending scheduled shifts and working within a structured production schedule.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in plastics extrusion, plastic injection molding, or compounding is beneficial.
• Previous experience as a material handler or forklift operator is an advantage, though not required.
• Comfort working with basic mechanical systems and performing simple equipment adjustments.
• Willingness to participate in structured training programs to advance to higher skill levels.
• Openness to using additional protective equipment, including respirators, if certain production lines require them.

Work Environment

The role is based in a 100,000 square foot, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility. Standard shift options include 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Monday–Friday), 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Monday–Friday), and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Sunday–Thursday). Each shift typically operates with five operators, a lead, and a supervisor, fostering close-knit, supportive teams. Overtime is available but not mandatory, and there may be occasional weekend work depending on business needs. The environment involves working around extrusion machines and related equipment, handling raw materials, and using a sit-down forklift once trained. Certain production lines may require the use of respirators, and employees must be able to comply with any related safety and fit requirements. The dress code includes steel toe shoes or boots, jeans or work pants, and a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt, with foot and eye protection supported through a reimbursement plan.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maple Grove, MN.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
