Job Title: Project Designer Job Description

The Project Designer develops architectural drawings across all phases of design and contributes to the successful delivery of building projects. This full-time, exempt position is based in the Harrisburg, PA office and plays a key role in field surveying, feasibility studies, specification coordination, and construction administration support. The role offers a hybrid work schedule, significant autonomy, and frequent collaboration with project managers, architects, consultants, owners, and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive working drawings, including schematic design, design development, and construction documents, in close cooperation with the project manager and specification writer.
• Produce construction document sets and detailing that clearly convey design intent and support accurate construction in the field.
• Conduct field surveying and document existing conditions to inform design decisions and ensure accurate project documentation.
• Assist with feasibility studies and project planning support, contributing to early-stage analysis and concept development.
• Support specification coordination by working with specification writers to align drawings and project documentation.
• Provide construction administration support, including coordinating with project managers and construction administrators throughout the construction phase.
• Meet regularly with consultants, alongside the project manager, to coordinate project requirements, resolve design and technical issues, and maintain project schedules.
• Communicate clearly in both oral and written form, and speak effectively in public settings, including project meetings and presentations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with project managers, architects, consultants, owners, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Work independently on smaller projects, managing multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team on larger projects, contributing design ideas, technical expertise, and coordination support.
• Apply knowledge of building codes and standards to support code compliance in design and documentation.
• Participate in space planning, concept design, and architectural design activities to develop functional and aesthetically sound solutions.
• Demonstrate attention to detail through quality control review of drawings and documents, helping to ensure accuracy and consistency across project deliverables.
• Utilize BIM/Revit modeling and AutoCAD drafting tools to create and maintain accurate digital models and drawings.
• Use Microsoft Office applications to prepare reports, schedules, presentations, and other project-related documentation.
• Manage multiple projects or project components concurrently, balancing priorities and meeting established deadlines.
• Contribute to a collaborative project environment by leading or participating in project meetings and coordinating RFIs and submittals as needed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum two-year degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least five (5) years of experience in architectural design or related project design roles.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including BIM modeling for architectural projects.
• Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD for drafting and detailing construction documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation, communication, and presentation.
• Strong architectural design skills, including schematic design and concept development.
• Experience with construction document production and detailing.
• Experience with field surveying and existing conditions documentation.
• Experience supporting feasibility studies and project planning.
• Experience providing construction administration support and coordinating specifications.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to speak effectively in public and write clearly.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently on smaller assignments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team on larger, more complex projects.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality control in drawings and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of building codes and code compliance processes.
• Experience with educational facilities or commercial project types is preferred.
• Experience with space planning and architecture-focused design tasks.
• Strong presentation and communication skills for client and stakeholder meetings.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with owners, contractors, architects, consultants, and internal team members.
• Ability to coordinate RFIs and submittals and provide oversight throughout construction.
• Comfort working in a hybrid environment with both autonomous and collaborative responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is based in the Harrisburg, PA office and follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work on Mondays and Thursdays and remote work on other days. Team members enjoy a high degree of autonomy and work directly with owners, contractors, architects, and consultants on a variety of project types, including educational and commercial facilities. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $60000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
