Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI)

Job Title

This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR), position is assigned to the Columbia VA Healthcare System Radiology Service, Magnetic Resonance Imaging section.

Team members work independently, under the direction of the MR Section Supervisor or Lead technologist. MR Technologist confers with Radiologists, MR Supervisor, and Chief Technologist on more difficult problems. On most assignments, technologist works independently, scheduling examinations and performing the same.

Major Duties Include:

• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology include location, appearance, and functioning of the major and minor systems susceptible to radiographic illumination, and knowledge of changes to systems and organs caused by common medical and surgical diseases.
• Performs all aspects of MRI imaging of the spine, head, neck, chest, studies including but not limited to Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, and Extremities and all other exams, utilizing specialized sequences to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.
• Perform exams such as MR Breast, MR Cardiac, and MR Functional Neuro studies utilizing specialized sequences to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.
• Performs MRI imaging of the peripheral and visceral vessels through MR Angiography of the abdominal systems and extremities. These MR angiographic studies include renal, hepatic, mesenteric, aortic, femoral, etc. The exams involve the use of highly sophisticated equipment, such as pressure injectors and 3D Reconstruction Software.
• Technologists are required to maintain competence in Venipuncture and refer to the Radiology Service Standard Operating Procedures for guidelines.
• Technologists must be familiar with policies and procedures for practicing radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. This is achieved by optimizing technical factors and ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Technologists are competent and educated in all aspects of MRI Safety, including any policy regarding MRI Safety. Maintains knowledge of all safety policies, practices and records regarding MRI Safety.
• Performs and completes imaging studies within the established guidelines for stat, preop, urgent and routine exams. Completes exams for interpretation and follows teleradiology procedures as indicated.
• Responsible for minor equipment adjustments, repairs and exercises care in the handling and safeguarding of all equipment. Technologists will check equipment for proper function prior to performing procedures. Technologists must report equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
• Maintains electronic records and files of exams performed on patients. This includes the maintenance of electronically secured spreadsheets, registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system and ensuring all images and required paperwork is properly filled out and scanned into the PACS system.
• Accurately operates a wide variety of imaging equipment to obtain examinations of acceptable quality utilizing the standardized amount of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) to obtain quality imaging for diagnosis and localization purposes. This includes but is not limited to:1.5 T, 3T, LOW FIELD magnet) and all other duties assigned.

Work Schedule: 7:00am- 5:30pm; rotating weekends, subject to change

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
