Location: Boys & Girls Club of Garfield & 21st CCLC Garfield Middle School
Employment Type: Part-Time
Compensation: $18 - $20/hr
The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated STEM Counselor to support and engage youth in hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programming. The STEM Counselor will create a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among youth ages K-14. This position combines STEM instruction, mentorship, and youth development while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assist with STEM-based activities, projects, and workshops.
- Facilitate engaging lessons in science, technology, engineering, robotics, coding, digital literacy, and mathematics.
- Encourage creativity, innovation, and exploration through hands-on learning experiences.
- Support youth in completing STEM projects and activities.
- Build positive relationships with youth participants.
- Serve as a role model and mentor while promoting teamwork and leadership skills.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Address behavioral concerns using positive youth development practices.
- Prepare materials and supplies needed for STEM activities.
- Assist with lesson planning and activity implementation.
- Maintain organized program spaces and STEM equipment.
- Ensure activities are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with program goals.
- Supervise participants during all program activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all youth members.
- Follow all organizational safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor attendance and participant engagement.
- Maintain accurate attendance records.
- Assist with documenting participant progress and program outcomes.
- Provide updates and feedback to supervisors regarding program success and participant engagement.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with special events, field trips, and community engagement activities.
- Support overall club operations as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of program areas and shared spaces.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- College coursework or degree in Education, STEM-related fields, Child Development, or a related area preferred.
Experience
- Experience working with youth in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings preferred.
- Experience facilitating STEM activities, coding, robotics, science experiments, or technology programs is a plus.
