About the Role

MD Psychiatry & Emotional Health is seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Manager to oversee and improve the financial performance of our growing outpatient psychiatry and therapy practice.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the full revenue cycle, including billing, coding, claims, denials, accounts receivable, patient and insurance collections, audits, reporting, and billing team oversight.

The ideal candidate is someone who can look beyond simply getting claims submitted and understand why we are getting paid—or why we aren't. This person will identify revenue leakage, resolve recurring billing issues, improve processes, and ensure our revenue cycle operates efficiently and consistently across the practice.

What You'll Do

Revenue Cycle Management

• Oversee the full revenue cycle from charge capture through final payment.
• Monitor billing, claims, payment posting, A/R, denials, and collections.
• Identify and resolve issues that delay or prevent payment.
• Develop and implement processes to improve cash flow and collections.

 

Denials & A/R

• Monitor and manage insurance denials and appeals.
• Identify trends and root causes of recurring denials.
• Oversee insurance and patient A/R follow-up.
• Monitor aging A/R and ensure timely resolution of outstanding balances.
• Identify and recover underpayments and missed revenue opportunities.

 

Billing & Coding

• Oversee billing and coding accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct routine billing and coding audits.
• Partner with providers and administrative staff to resolve documentation and coding issues.
• Stay current on payer requirements and behavioral health billing practices.

 

Billing Team & Vendor Oversight

• Provide direction and accountability to the billing team and/or external billing partner.
• Monitor productivity, work queues, and performance.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex billing and reimbursement issues.
• Ensure billing responsibilities are completed accurately and timely.

 

Reporting & Analysis

• Develop and maintain revenue cycle reports and KPIs.
• Monitor collection rates, A/R, denials, aging balances, claim issues, and other key metrics.
• Identify trends and provide recommendations to leadership.
• Help leadership understand where revenue is being lost and where opportunities exist for improvement.

 

Process Improvement

• Identify inefficiencies and develop solutions to improve revenue cycle performance.
• Standardize billing and collection processes across practice locations.
• Work with leadership and staff to implement new workflows and systems.
• Monitor the effectiveness of changes and make adjustments as needed.

 

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, healthcare finance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of medical billing, insurance claims, denials, A/R, and collections.
• Experience with coding and reimbursement practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to independently manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

 

Preferred:

• Experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, or outpatient healthcare.
• Experience with Medicaid and commercial insurance payors.
• Experience managing a billing team or external billing vendor.
• Experience with billing audits and appeals.
• CPC, CRCR, CCS, or other relevant certification.
