Survey Field Technician / Survey Assistant

Full-Time | Newark, DE Area Transportation • Land Development • Industrial Projects A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering firm is seeking a Field Survey Technician to join its survey team supporting transportation, land development, and industrial projects in the Newark, Delaware area. This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning modern survey technology, and building a long-term career in land surveying. This role is a strong fit for: Early-career survey professionals Survey assistants or field technicians seeking consistency and advancement Recent or upcoming graduates in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology What You’ll Be Doing Working alongside experienced crew leaders and survey professionals, you’ll assist with: Operating and assisting with survey equipment including total stations, GPS, data collectors, and auto-levels Collecting and recording accurate field measurements, notes, sketches, and digital data Running bench loops, cross-sections, and elevation shots Setting targets and assisting operators with angle, distance, and elevation measurements Searching for, recovering, and setting property corners and survey monumentation Supporting topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction stakeout Performing physical field work such as clearing brush, carrying equipment, and setting stakes Supporting a variety of projects including DOT/transportation, industrial sites, and public facilities What We’re Looking For Required: High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 1+ year of experience in field surveying, construction, or a related outdoor technical role OR Associate’s Degree in Surveying Technology or a related discipline (Recent and upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply) Valid driver’s license and clean driving record Ability to pass background check and drug screening Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work Preferred (Not Required): Formal education in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field Exposure to modern survey methods, best practices, and technologies Experience with robotic total stations, GPS, Leica equipment, or laser scanning Basic familiarity with CAD or GIS software Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment Why This Opportunity Stable, full-time position with consistent project backlog Exposure to transportation and infrastructure projects Opportunity to grow into higher-level field, office, or leadership roles Investment in training, technology, and professional development Supportive team culture with long-term career potential #J-18808-Ljbffr Gilder Search Group
