Assistant Sturgeon Hatchery Manager

Job Title: Assistant Sturgeon Hatchery Manager Location: Twin Rivers Sturgeon and Burbot Hatchery, Moyie Springs, Idaho. Wage: $24.00/hr. - $27.00/hr. DOE plus benefits after successful 3 month probation. Status: Fulltime, Non-Exempt; Some weekends, nights, and holidays. Reports to: Hatchery Manager
The Assistant Sturgeon Hatchery Manager assists the Hatchery Manager in overseeing the day-to-day aquaculture operations of the Kootenai Tribe's Twin Rivers Sturgeon and Burbot Hatchery. This position includes free on site three bedroom house (utilities included).
This role combines hands‑on fish culture work with supervisory responsibility, stepping in to lead hatchery staff when the Hatchery Manager is off-site. This position requires sound technical judgment, dependable leadership, and a genuine commitment to the health and long‑term success of the Tribe's aquaculture program.
Duties include coordinating fish culture operations, supporting spawning and daily fish care (feeding, tank cleaning), maintaining clean and sanitary hatchery conditions, collecting and entering data, responding to facility alarms, and conducting road maintenance. Additional projects as needed.
Requirements
- Must be available for on‑call shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the Tribe's insurance policy required; passport required within 90-day probationary period.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- Completion of mandatory training courses as needed.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical labor (bending, kneeling, standing) for long periods.
- Comfortable working under variable weather conditions.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe programs.
