RN - Interventional Radiology (Methodist)

Overview The RN – Interventional Radiology Nurse provides complete nursing care and moderate sedation for Interventional Radiology patients and nursing services for Radiology patients in all modalities. This RN collaborates closely with the Prep/Recovery team, anesthesia, inpatient and ambulatory physicians and nurses to facilitate excellent patient care. Qualifications Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 4 months – Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months – American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 60 days – American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider – American Heart Association (AHA) Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) College Diploma in Nursing Registered Nurse – work experience required Responsibilities Performs procedures to ensure accurate and complete examinations within guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards of Medical Imaging. Practices nursing within the scope of Illinois RN licensure. Oversees and performs thorough patient assessments, analyzes findings, and reports significant observations. Assures efficient, thorough, and effective interventional case flow in the Medical Imaging Department. Administers medications/conscious sedation safely and effectively following UPH and department policies. Controls narcotics and supplies with appropriate documentation. Monitors patient condition and initiates appropriate interventions as needed. Follows Joint Commission patient safety goals and quality standards throughout procedures. Demonstrates competency in caring for critically ill patients and functions independently in emergency situations. Sets up and uses monitoring equipment (capnography, cardiac output, arterial pressures) during procedures. Performs venipuncture and insertion of peripheral catheters. Performs adult and pediatric catheterization as needed. Performs nursing tasks in the Radiology Department, IR, and nursing floors. Inspects equipment daily (refrigerator temperature, crash cart, defibrillator, blood oximeter, narcotics log). Functions as circulating tech and scrub assistant during procedures. Maintains knowledge of moderate sedation guidelines and educates as necessary. Assists in scheduling interventional cases between IR, CT, General Diagnostic, and Sono. Coordinates daily flow of interventional cases and RN resources across imaging services based on case load. Patient Education Provides proper explanation of procedures to patients, families, and others to ensure understanding. Assesses and adapts teaching strategies based on patient/family age, readiness, and comprehension. Considers cultural, gender, and developmental factors when educating about procedures, illnesses, and hospital experience. Ensures patient safety by following policies, procedures, and National Patient Safety Goals. Consults internal resources for specialized education and utilizes the SVI patient education system.
