Data Center Lead

Data Center Lead
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Lead to oversee and manage low voltage installation projects inside mission-critical data center environments. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires someone who can move fluidly between the technical and the tactical: reading a blueprint one minute and decoding a client's Excel cut sheet the next, then translating both into clear direction for the crew on the floor.
The ideal candidate is genuinely tech savvy - comfortable opening a multi-tab cut sheet, deciphering how labels on one sheet correspond to ports, racks, or runs on another, and "connecting the dots" between documentation and what's actually happening in the field. At the same time, this person hasn't lost the technical chops that got them here; they can still terminate a run, troubleshoot a bad link, and walk a rack the same as their crew.
This role also carries real visibility with the client. Some days it's leading a core team of 3 5 technicians through a standard install. Other days it's being the person responsible inside a hot aisle containment row with 15 20+ techs working around them, making sure everything gets tracked, sequenced, and closed out correctly. Either way, this is very much a character hire - someone with the presence, communication skills, and experience to hold their own in front of the client and the GC, not just competent but someone the client trusts in the room.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead and manage field crews in the installation of low voltage systems, including structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Fiber).
-
Read and interpret client-provided Excel cut sheets - cross-referencing labels, ports, and equipment references across multiple tabs to accurately map cable runs and catch discrepancies before they become install errors.
-
Interpret and work from blueprints, project specifications, and site plans.
-
Coordinate daily tasks and schedules to ensure timely project completion, scaling oversight from a core crew of 3 5 up to a full hot aisle containment row of 15 20+ technicians when project demand requires it.
-
Perform quality control inspections on cabling, terminations, labeling, and pathways.
-
Serve as the primary point of contact within the work area for the client and GC - resolving issues in real time and representing the company with the credibility and composure the client expects.
-
Ensure all work is performed according to local code, safety guidelines, and company standards.
-
Maintain accurate records of materials, labor hours, and progress reports.
-
Train, mentor, and supervise technicians and installers on best practices and safety compliance.
-
Oversee tool and material usage to prevent waste and ensure availability.
Qualifications
-
3 5 years of experience in low voltage/data cabling.
-
Experience working in live data center environments is required.
-
Strong Excel skills - able to navigate multi-tab cut sheets, cross-reference labeling schemes, and translate that documentation into actionable field instructions.
-
Strong knowledge of TIA/EIA standards, cable routing, terminations, and testing.
-
Familiarity with fiber optic cabling, patch panels, cable trays, and rack installations.
-
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
-
A confident, professional presence - someone who can hold their own with the client and GC, not just technically but as a representative of the company.
-
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills; proven experience supervising both small core teams and larger crews in high-density areas like hot aisle containment.
-
Comfortable working in high-security, climate-controlled environments.
-
OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
-
BICSI certification is a plus.
Requirements
-
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
-
Comfortable with physical tasks: climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, and standing for long periods.
-
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
-
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights or weekends if needed.
