Position The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is recruiting for Behavioral Health Physicians II who function as Attending General Psychiatrists. They assume medical responsibility for adult and/or child and adolescent patients under their direct care and supervision in outpatient clinics. Incumbents may also supervise/teach residents and medical students or work in specialty areas such as outpatient forensics, correctional mental health services, Clozaril, diversion, quality improvement, or informatics. Essential duties include conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments/evaluations and mental status examinations (MSEs) of adult patients, providing multi-axial diagnoses according to the DSM, and developing and implementing individualized mental health treatment plans. They provide competent psychotropic medication treatment and other psychiatric treatments to meet patient needs and perform related tasks as required. About DBH The Department of Behavioral Health is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents. DBH serves all ages with emphasis on children/youth, adults with serious mental illness, and individuals with substance use disorders. Core values are service, integrity, accountability, and trust. DBH comprises eight direct service areas and five indirect service areas, with a workforce over 1,000 and an approximate $700 million annual budget. DBH is accepting applications for Behavioral Health Physician I, Behavioral Health Physician III, and Child Psychiatrist. Each position requires its own application. Thompson Physician Corps – up to $105,000 over three years NHSC Loan Repayment – up to $75,000 over two years (or more with continued service) 5% differential pay for ABPN Board Certification Conditions of Employment Requirements include completion of residency in psychiatry, medical licensure in California, DEA registration, and teaching requirements. You may be asked to supervise/teach medical learners. Background checks and medical examinations are required. Some assignments offer evening and weekend shifts (voluntary). Visa sponsorship is not available. Requirements and Qualifications Candidates must meet ALL of the following: Education: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine. Residency: Psychiatry residency approved by the ACGME; certificate of completion must be submitted. License: Valid Physician and Surgeon certificate in California; provide number and expiration date on the supplemental questionnaire. Certification: DEA certificate required; copy submitted with the application. Experience: Six months of full-time experience teaching residents and/or medical students, or six months in a behavioral health specialty clinic/area (outpatient forensics, correctional mental health, Clozaril, etc.). Additional qualifications: bilingual candidates are encouraged; testing may be required for bilingual compensation. Ideally, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with strong communication and collaborative skills; experience with seriously mentally ill, eating disorders, under-served populations, and work with children/adolescents is desirable.
