Assistant Professor of Psychology

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching, scholarship, and service missions of the Department and College. The Assistant Professor will teach undergraduate courses in general psychology, research methods, and specialized topics, and will be expected to maintain an active research agenda. The position offers opportunities for faculty development and mentoring, and a chance to engage with a diverse student body committed to academic excellence. Specific Qualifications Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology or a closely related field is required. Candidates who are ABD may be considered if completion of the degree is expected within one year of appointment. Experience: Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred, but strong candidates with a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success will be considered. Strong background in at least one area of psychology (e.g., clinical, developmental, cognitive, social, industrial–organizational, or educational psychology) with the ability to teach core psychology courses. A demonstrated record or potential for research and scholarly activity in psychology, with an interest in involving undergraduate students in research projects. Other Requirements: Commitment to teaching diverse learners, with an emphasis on inclusive pedagogical practices. Ability to develop and implement engaging curriculum and assessments. Strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to service, including participation in departmental meetings, student advising, and college‑wide initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Research Interests: A well‑defined research agenda in psychology that can contribute to the department’s academic and service missions. Experience: Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and the use of technology in the classroom. Grant Writing: Experience in seeking external funding for research initiatives. Professional Engagement: Active involvement in psychology‑related professional organizations (e.g., American Psychological Association) and a record of presenting at conferences. Community Engagement: Experience in applying psychology to community‑based work or outreach initiatives. Job Responsibilities Teaching & Instruction: Teach undergraduate courses in psychology, including core courses (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, Statistics) and specialized electives based on expertise. Develop and implement engaging, evidence‑based, and student‑centered teaching strategies. Provide regular feedback to students on their academic progress and performance. Maintain office hours and be available to students for advising and academic support. Research & Scholarly Activity: Maintain an active research agenda in an area of psychology. Involve undergraduate students in research projects, fostering experiential learning opportunities. Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at academic conferences. Seek external funding (e.g., grants) to support research projects and departmental initiatives. Service & Outreach: Advise undergraduate students, helping them navigate academic programs and career opportunities in psychology. Participate in departmental and College‑wide committees, contributing to institutional governance. Collaborate with faculty and community organizations on outreach programs, events, or research projects that engage students in real‑world applications of psychology. Contribute to departmental and institutional goals, such as program assessment and curriculum development. Curriculum Development & Assessment: Assist in the ongoing development and improvement of the psychology curriculum to meet the evolving needs of students and the field. Participate in course and program assessments to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the educational experience. Review and revise syllabi, course content, and instructional materials to reflect current trends in psychology. Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development through research, conferences, workshops, and collaborations. Stay current with developments in the field of psychology, including teaching methodologies, research advancements, and emerging issues in the discipline.
