Department: Tillman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine Salary: Commensurate with experience The University of Houston Tillman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine (UHCOM) at the University of Houston announces a non-tenure track, open rank, Clinical Faculty - Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. Reporting to the Dean, and in collaboration with the Vice or Associate Dean of Medical Education (V/ADME), the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA) provides strategic leadership for the full faculty life cycle across the College of Medicine, from workforce planning and recruitment to onboarding, development, advancement, support, and offboarding. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs partners with department chairs and institutional leaders to build a high performing and engaged faculty workforce while ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, accreditation standards, and university policies. Key Responsibilities 1. Faculty Life Cycle Leadership Leads integrated faculty workforce planning, including short- and long-term hiring strategies aligned with institutional goals; maintains one-year and three-year hiring plans. Oversees end-to-end faculty processes: recruitment, onboarding, appointment, reappointment, development, promotion and tenure, remediation, and separation/retirement. Ensures clear, efficient, and standardized processes across departments, with strong communication of expectations and timelines. Maintains oversight of faculty data systems, analytics, and reporting to inform decision-making and continuous improvement. 2. Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention Charges and serves ex officio on all faculty search committees, ensuring swift and efficient searches are conducted; develops or refines policies regarding faculty recruitment to improve the efficiency and success rate of searches. Partners with chairs to identify talent needs and strengthen recruitment pipelines, including strategies to enhance competitiveness; partners with marketing to develop associated communication tools. Leads structured onboarding, including a clear communication of expectations, and provides early career support to promote integration, clarity of role, and early success. Monitors retention trends and implements targeted strategies to enhance engagement and reduce attrition. 3. Faculty Advancement and Support Oversees promotion and tenure processes, ensuring clarity, fairness, and alignment with institutional standards. Provides coaching and guidance to faculty and leaders on career progression, performance optimization, and scholarly productivity. Partners with leaders within the Office of Medical Education to develop and support a comprehensive faculty development strategy spanning teaching, clinical care, research, leadership, and mentorship. Uses needs assessments and outcomes data to design and continuously refine development programs. 4. Performance Management and Support Oversees annual faculty review processes and periodic leadership (e.g., chair) evaluations. Partners with department leaders, the Dean, and the V/ADME to address performance concerns, including structured remediation and support plans. Serves as a trusted resource for faculty concerns, conflict resolution, and academic personnel matters, fostering a respectful and professional culture. 5. Policy, Compliance, and Governance Develops, implements, and maintains faculty affairs policies aligned with university standards and best practices. Ensures compliance with institutional, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. Partners with the Office of the Provost and other university units on faculty-related processes and approvals. 6. Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement Contributes to LCME accreditation efforts, including documentation, data monitoring, and CQI processes related to faculty. Uses data-driven approaches to evaluate faculty-related outcomes and improve systems, culture, and effectiveness. 7. Institutional Leadership and External Engagement Serves on the Dean's leadership team and key institutional committees. Represents the College in local, state, and national forums related to faculty affairs and academic medicine. Contributes to scholarship and dissemination of best practices in faculty development and academic leadership.
