Our client is looking for a freelance copywriter with significant experience in concepting and writing scripts for video projects that utilize animation and motion graphics.

• TITLE: Copywriter
• LOCATION: Remote on the East Coast, must be able to travel onsite to Northern Virginia for a one-day kickoff
• HOURS: part-time, ~20 hours per week
• DURATION: 4 weeks

Our client is seeking a senior-level freelance Conceptual Copywriter for a high-profile, evergreen capstone video project for a federal government agency's graduation ceremonies for new recruits. The video (5 to 8 minutes in length) will be shown to graduates and their families for at least 5 years, and therefore can not rely on imagery of individual graduates. The video will utilize high-impact visual storytelling, motion graphics, and 3D environments created from photographs/footage to engage the audience and convey the magnitude of joining the agency. A great look is needed - something to distract the viewer from looking for their relative on screen. Visually stunning. The hope for the writer is that, by touring the facility, sitting with instructors, meeting with the agency Historian, something visually engaging will become crystal clear to them. We are looking for artistic genius.


The engagement begins with a virtual kickoff and an essential 1-day on-site visit to the training facility in Northern Virginia during Week 1 to meet with instructors and the agency historian. The writer will have creative freedom to propose visual and narrative concepts, working alongside a design partner and project stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

• Develop concept and write a complete Dual-Column Audio/Visual (AV) Script
• Partner with designer to develop scene-by-scene storyboards and detailed page descriptions that map out the visual journey, camera movements (e.g., 3D photo environments), and motion graphic treatments.
• Formulate narrative voiceover copy that balances a fast-paced, visually engaging open with a meaningful look at the training experience and future mission of graduates.
• Obtain sign-off from key stakeholders on the final AV script.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a conceptual copywriter working at ad agencies for national brands.
• Mandatory Portfolio Requirement: Candidates MUST submit portfolio samples that feature one or more AV scripts alongside the corresponding finished video pieces showing concept execution using heavy motion graphics/animation.
• Extensive expertise writing for video execution with motion graphics, 3D animated environments, and graphic-heavy video productions.
• Exceptional ability to translate complex themes into engaging visual metaphors and descriptive script direction.
• Must reside on the East Coast and be willing to travel to the Washington, D.C. / Northern Virginia area for a 1-day on-site kickoff (travel expenses will be reimbursed)
• Ability to obtain a standard visitor site access pass to a government agency site (no formal security clearance required). Client will manage the site visit application process.
