Position Title - Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position in Spanish

Job Responsibilities - The School of Arts and Humanities seeks applicants for a non-tenure track, 9-month Assistant Professor or Instructor faculty position in Spanish to start August 10, 2026. This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described below, faculty are expected to contribute to the campus culture of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and interdisciplinarity by teaching in the University's core curriculum (The Dialogues) and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and coursework as needed.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will contribute to the Modern Language program by offering instruction in Elementary- and Intermediate-level Spanish. The position is expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester.

Candidate evaluation: All applicants will be evaluated on: academic qualification, demonstrated success in student-centered teaching of undergraduate Spanish and, if applicable, undergraduate French courses, teaching philosophy, experience, and background, commitment to student development in the liberal arts and sciences, evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills, compatibility with the department's needs.

Program: The Department of Languages and Linguistics, a unit of the School of Arts & Humanities, has twenty-one full-time faculty members—seven in Spanish—and approximately 40 undergraduate majors. The department offers BA degrees in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Classics, and Modern Language—with specializations in French, German, and Spanish—and a BS degree in Linguistics. The department also offers fourteen minors, including Spanish and Spanish for the Professions. The Spanish program sponsors an award-winning chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Spanish Honor Society, and contributes to United Speakers, a student organization dedicated to providing service to area Hispanic and French-speaking communities.

The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. In addition to being the home of Truman, Kirksville is the birthplace of osteopathic medicine and features a medical school, dental school, and community college. The Kirksville School District is consistently recognized for academic excellence. The community takes pride in several annual events including the Red, White and Blue Festival, the Red Barn Arts and Craft Festival, and theFLATSTrail Half-Marathon. The charming downtown area features an arts center, local shops, and restaurants, and it is the site of numerous community events including weekly farmers' markets and summer concerts on the courthouse lawn. Required Qualifications - Required qualifications include: MA in Spanish for rank of Instructor.

Preferred Qualifications - Preferred qualifications include: Ph.D. in Spanish for the rank of Assistant Professor. Experience teaching Beginning and Intermediate-level Spanish online. Ability to teach Elementary- and Intermediate-level French
