LICENSED OPTICIAN – VA Medical Centers (Federal Contract)

Baltimore, MD | Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM | Multiple Openings

Pay: $32.00 – $40.00/hour based on experience and certifications

We are currently hiring Licensed Opticians to support a federal contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in the Baltimore, Maryland area. This is a rare opportunity to serve the men and women who have served our nation — in a stable, daytime-only schedule with no evenings or weekends.

- Baltimore VA Medical Center – 10 N. Greene Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

- Loch Raven VAMC – 3901 The Alameda, Baltimore, MD 21218

- Perry Point VAMC – 361 Boiler House Road, Perry Point, MD 21902

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Fit, measure, and dispense prescription eyewear to eligible Veterans

- Assist Veterans with frame selection based on prescription and lifestyle needs

- Measure pupillary distances, segment heights, and base curves

- Verify eyeglass prescription specifications from VA Optometry and Ophthalmology clinics

- Perform minor repairs and adjustments (nose pads, screws, frame alignment, etc.)

- Document patient care in VA's electronic health record (CPRS/EHR) — VA training provided

- Maintain professionalism and a high standard of Veteran-centered care

REQUIREMENTS

- Current, full, and unrestricted Maryland Optician license OR ABO certification (required)

- Minimum 1–2 years of dispensing Optician experience preferred

- Must be able to pass a VA federal background investigation (NACI) — AllMed will guide you through the process

- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work compassionately with Veteran populations

- English fluency required (spoken, written, and reading)

- Current Hepatitis B vaccination documentation required prior to start

- Must be authorized to work in the United States — E-Verify employer

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

- Pay: $32.00 – $40.00/hour based on experience and certifications

- Predictable federal contract schedule — Monday through Friday, no evenings or weekends

- 11 federal holidays observed per year
