About You

You'll play an important role in horses' lives by providing end-to-end care for our patients. Your work will range from hands-on outpatient treatments and laboratory tests to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Your Experience & Skills

• Previous equine experience in a professional environment required

• Comfortable administering injections and applying bandages
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Positive attitude and teamwork mindset; able to anticipate veterinarian needs
• Racehorse handling experience

About The Hospital

Elgin Veterinary Hospital is a Bovine and Equine emergency referral and primary care facility that offers the best medical and surgical treatments.


Role Responsibilities

• Assist with appointments
• Run lab work
• Administer treatments: oral, IV, IM, ophthalmic
• Prepare medications
• Take TPR's
• On call rotation
• Other tasks as assigned

Physical and Schedule Requirements:

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely assist in the movement, positioning, and restraint of equine patients ( typically 1 , 000+ l bs ) using proper equipment, team support, and established safety protocols, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stoop , bend, and stand for extended periods of time as required by the role , with or without reasonable accommodation .
• Work Environment: Ability to perform essential job functions outdoors in varying weather conditions (including heat, cold, rain, and icy conditions) , with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Schedule Requirements: Monday-Friday day shift. Must be available for rotating weekend shifts , and on-call .
