Senior Accounting Specialist
A well-established organization in the Washington, DC area is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with strong general ledger, reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable experience who can work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Senior Accounting Specialist
A well-established organization in the Washington, DC area is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with strong general ledger, reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable experience who can work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
- Support month-end and year-end close activities
- Review and process accounts payable invoices
- Maintain accounts receivable records and apply cash payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and customer account balances
- Research and resolve payment and account discrepancies
- Assist with cash management and treasury-related activities
- Review financial documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare financial reports and supporting account analyses
- Process accounting adjustments, write-offs, and other transactions
- Respond to internal accounting and financial inquiries
- Provide documentation and support during audits
- Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting
- Hands-on accounts payable and accounts receivable experience
- Experience supporting month-end close processes
- Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices
- Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information confidentially
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working in a mid-level or senior accounting capacity
- Experience using a major ERP or financial management system
- Exposure to treasury, cash management, or investment-related accounting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience handling high-volume financial transactions and reconciliations
