About the Role:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) specializing in Cardiology plays a critical role in supporting cardiologists and healthcare teams in delivering exceptional cardiovascular care to patients. This position involves monitoring patients' cardiac health, administering prescribed treatments, and assisting with diagnostic procedures to ensure accurate and timely care. The LPN will be responsible for educating patients and their families about heart health, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to promote recovery and prevent complications. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, the LPN ensures seamless communication and coordination of care plans tailored to each patient's unique cardiac condition. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with cardiovascular diseases.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of employment within the United States.
- Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a cardiology or acute care setting.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and common cardiac conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a cardiology unit or cardiac care center.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to cardiology.
- Additional training or certification in cardiac monitoring or telemetry.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and common cardiac conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, to detect any abnormalities or changes in cardiac status.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by cardiologists, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and accurate documentation.
- Assist with cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKGs, stress tests, and echocardiograms, preparing patients and equipment as needed.
- Provide patient education on cardiac health, medication adherence, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle changes to support recovery and disease management.
- Collaborate with physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Respond promptly to cardiac emergencies by following established protocols and providing basic life support when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards.
Skills:
The LPN Cardiology utilizes clinical nursing skills daily to monitor cardiac patients effectively, interpret vital signs, and recognize early warning signs of cardiac distress. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. Proficiency in administering medications and performing cardiac-related procedures ensures patient safety and treatment efficacy. Familiarity with electronic health records allows for accurate documentation and efficient information sharing among healthcare providers.
