Assistant Buyer

Description

Meco Corporation is seeking an Assistant Buyer to support day-to-day purchasing activities for raw materials, MRO items, and finished goods. This role is responsible for processing purchase requisitions, monitoring system-generated requirements, placing purchase orders with approved suppliers, and coordinating with internal departments and suppliers to support on-time delivery.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage purchasing priorities while maintaining strong communication with suppliers, production teams, maintenance, tooling, customer service, and other internal departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Execute purchasing activities for assigned raw material components, both domestic and international, using ERP/MRP system outputs and established procedures.
• Work closely with maintenance, tooling, operations, and other internal teams to understand material needs and support timely, cost-effective purchasing solutions.
• Receive, process, and convert MRO requisitions into purchase orders in a timely manner.
• Review MRO requisitions and identify competitive or readily available alternatives when appropriate.
• Monitor and coordinate finished goods purchase orders, warehouse deliveries, and customer drop-ship orders.
• Review open order reports, supplier commitments, delivery dates, shipping requirements, and order status to support on-time fulfillment.
• Research products and suppliers, request quotes, and identify alternative options within approved supplier guidelines.
• Monitor the status of purchased raw materials, MRO items, and finished goods, following up with suppliers as needed.
• Track inventory levels compared to production requirements and communicate potential shortages, delays, or risks.
• Maintain accurate vendor and purchase order documentation.
• Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and pricing.
• Perform other purchasing and supply chain support duties as assigned.
• Follow all safety guidelines and required Quality Management System procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree with supply chain experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of supply chain, logistics, procurement, and inventory control processes preferred.
• Ability to execute purchasing activities within established procedures and supplier guidelines.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with suppliers and internal departments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage daily priorities, resolve routine issues, and escalate non-standard situations when needed.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Work Environment

This position primarily works in a general office environment with some exposure to the manufacturing plant. Some overtime and travel may be required based on business needs. Employees are expected to wear required safety equipment when applicable.
