Lower School Teaching Assistant

Saddle River Day School, a close community of learners, is looking for a full-time Lower School Teaching Assistant to join our Lower School team for the 2026-2027 school year. The position would work with students in first through fourth grades. Our mission includes developing caring, ethical contributors to society, and our faculty strive to provide students with opportunities to explore material, engage deeply with content, and apply learned skills. We are seeking a team member who possesses a growth mindset and who can form dynamic relationships with students as well as colleagues based on positivity and collegiality. Responsibilities Work closely with the lead classroom teacher and members of the Lower School team to support the emotional, physical, and academic growth of young learners in first though fourth grade Assist lead teachers with daily classroom routines, classroom management and lesson implementation Support students during whole-group, small-group, and individual activities Help foster a warm, inclusive classroom community where each child feels valued and known Supervise students during lunch, recess, transitions, rest time, and other daily activities Collaborate with classroom teachers, Special Area teachers, and specialists to support the needs of all learners Communicate professionally and positively with colleagues and families, as appropriate Remain flexible and responsive to the changing needs of young children and the school day Qualifications Hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate, or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field Have experience working with children in an elementary school setting (other relevant experiences will be considered) Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $30,000 to $32,000 (final compensation will be determined based on experience and education) Benefits Offered: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance; 403(b) Retirement Plan with employer matching; Life and Disability Insurance This position starts August 2026.
