Job Title: Metal Saw Operator

Job Description

This role involves setting up and operating metal cutting saws to produce accurate parts according to customer specifications. You will work in a hands-on production environment, using hand and power tools, tape measures, and blueprints to cut and prepare raw steel and other materials for fabrication and assembly. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read and interpret work orders and blueprints, and a commitment to safety and quality throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

• Set up metal saws and related equipment to prepare for cutting metal according to job requirements.
• Use hand and power tools throughout the day to support cutting, fabrication, and general production tasks.
• Measure materials accurately with a tape measure the majority of the time to ensure cuts meet customer specifications.
• Read and interpret work orders to identify the correct raw materials and products that need to be cut.
• Read blueprints and production drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and cutting requirements.
• Measure and mark raw steel and other materials to make precise cuts for production.
• Operate saws, band saws, drill presses, and related equipment to cut and prepare metal components.
• Transfer cut materials and raw stock to the correct workstations or production areas.
• Perform light maintenance on machines, including adding oil, changing blades, and basic adjustments to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.
• Deburr and finish cut parts as needed to meet quality and safety standards.
• Assist with general labor tasks such as loading materials, handling sheet metal, and supporting fabrication and assembly operations.
• Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment, if qualified, to move raw material and finished parts.
• Use measuring tools such as micrometers and tape measures to verify dimensions and ensure quality.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the open production environment.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues with materials, equipment, or work orders to maintain smooth production flow.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of consistent work history in a production, industrial, fabrication, or similar hands-on environment.
• Strong proficiency with a tape measure and the ability to take accurate measurements repeatedly throughout the day.
• Experience with saw operation, including setup and safe use of metal cutting saws or band saws.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, and work orders.
• Experience with machine setup and basic machine operation in a machine shop or production setting.
• Comfort using hand and power tools for cutting, drilling, and general fabrication tasks.
• Ability to perform light maintenance on machines, such as adding oil and changing blades.
• Capability to work with raw material, sheet metal, and metal parts in an industrial environment.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with general labor tasks in a production setting.
• Reliability and strong attendance to support consistent production schedules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with drill presses, band saws, and other metal fabrication equipment.
• Knowledge in fabrication, assembly, or production work in an industrial or machine shop environment.
• Familiarity with CNC equipment or press brake operations.
• Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
• Ability to use micrometers and other precision measuring tools.
• Comfort working with sheet metal and performing deburring and finishing tasks.
• Willingness to learn new machines and processes as the business grows.
• Interest in long-term growth within a production or manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in an open production environment where you will work directly with metal parts and raw materials, and your hands will get dirty as you perform daily tasks. You will regularly use metal cutting saws, band saws, drill presses, tape measures, micrometers, hand tools, power tools, and other industrial equipment. The facility operates multiple shifts, with one opportunity on first shift (Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) and one opportunity on second shift (Monday–Thursday, 3:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.). The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, accuracy, and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of MANKATO, MN.

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $25.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in MANKATO,MN.
