Clinical Lab Scientist I

POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Laboratory Scientist analyzes specimens and maintains equipment in good operating condition. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Verify the proper specimen is being analyzed and perform tests that need to be completed Analyze clinical laboratory specimens following standard methods and procedures efficiently with minimal errors Maintain updated knowledge of methods performed in the lab Follow GLP (good laboratory practice) by maintaining a clean and organized workspace Complete training and other deadlines on time Act as the go‑to person when lead/supervisor is not available Receive specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super user) Recognize and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and common errors Recognize, document, and report protocol deviations to lead/supervisor Participate in updating departmental standard operating procedures and database to reflect current practices Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements through proper documentation Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of clinical data (if applicable) Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition Communicate with team and other departments, including via e‑mail Provide feedback on day‑to‑day schedule and tasks to lead/supervisor; offer improvement suggestions Assist teammates in completing daily tasks Conduct oneself professionally and serve as a role model/mentor to others Adhere to departmental expectations Work with PHI on a regular basis in paper and electronic form and have access to technologies to access PHI Complete training related to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security within 30 days of hire Maintain current status on Natera training requirements Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS 1–2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory environment BS/BA degree (or equivalent) in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, or related field Current California CLS license (Clinical Laboratory Science – Generalist) or CGMBS license (Clinical Genetics Molecular Biology Scientist) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, troubleshooting, and pipetting skills Experience in molecular biology Excellent oral and written communication skills Word processing and data management skills PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT Duties performed in BSL‑2 lab Standing or sitting for long periods may be necessary Duties may require working weekends and overtime Must be able to discern color visually or evaluate cellular morphology when applicable; pass applicable screening assessment COMPENSATION & TOTAL REWARDS Compensation range: $47.64 – $59.57 USD.
