Job Title: Sr. Engineer, Quality & Reliability Engineering Location: Hybrid; should be local to Hampton, VA Duration: 1 Year with possible extensions Pay: $60/hr. Shift: 1st shift, 7:00 to 5:00 pm EST Travel: Some travel, up to 20%, local/regional Candidate Requirement: Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual). Job Overview Crucial member of the project core team and acts as a voice of the customer for quality related topics within the LEANPD / New Product Development process. Responsible for the quality of the project launch and all quality tasks, from initial design through production release and customer PPAP approval (G5). Quality responsibilities transfer from advanced quality to manufacturing quality (Factory Quality). Responsibilities Lead cross‑functional teams without direct authority. Evaluate customer, compliance, and internal requirements with the core team, clarifying imprecise requirements to achieve clear product specifications. Ensure defined development processes are followed: checklists applied, project reviews, risk analyses, and escalation to manager as needed. Guarantee each task is performed with the quality required for a successful project launch. Ensure quality planning, documentation, and customer submissions comply with ITAR and export control requirements. Support design and drawing review meetings to meet the quality standard, structure, and content. Plan and execute product & design validation prior to Start of Production (SOP). Support the project until it is mature enough to hand over to Manufacturing Quality teams. Collect, register, support, and evaluate variations from customer requirements during LEANPD projects. Act as 8D problem‑solving team leader for issues during product development. Act as FMEA moderator and quality authority, ensuring robustness and risk adequacy. Lead and coordinate Measurement System Analysis (MSA) per LEANPD requirements. Own Control Plan and lead Control Plan meetings, assigning actions and ensuring completion. Promote product standardization and updates to design standards. Drive “Lessons Learned” processes and “Read Across” lessons during project start and development and during customer complaints to prevent re‑occurrence. Drive monitoring and improvement of development process KPIs and implement process improvements. Support implementation and training of quality standards and improvements to existing development processes and sub‑processes in engineering departments. Collaborate on introduction and training of quality and engineering related software packages, quality procedures and systems. Host and lead audits as part of a LEANPD project. Collect and verify quality and content of customer production approval documentation and submit to customer for approval. Audit APQP documents (DFMEA, PFMEA, process flowchart, production control plan) and ensure responsible parties close findings. Support improvement of existing APQP system by providing feedback to process owners. Promote quality culture by supervising and consulting on methods and tools such as 8D training, root cause analysis, risk management, variant comparison. Represent the company to the customer in quality‑related tasks during the LEANPD project. Review LEANPD deliverables before Project Approval Committee (PAC) to ensure projects are ready; elevate to management if deliverables are unsatisfactory. Required Experience & Qualifications B.S. degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field. 8+ years in Quality Engineering with significant NPI/APQP involvement for regulated products. Knowledge of quality activities, particularly APQP. Knowledge of industry standards such as AS9100, ISO13485, and ISO22163. Proficiency in 8D problem‑solving methodology. Experience in core tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA. Internal Systems Auditor experience. Experience with software for creating FMEAs and Control Plans (APIS IQ‑RM Pro preferred). Experience using statistical software such as Minitab. Certified Six Sigma Black or Green Belt. Position involves access to ITAR/EAR subject material. Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR.
