Principal Scientist, Translational Clinical Biomarkers

Merck seeks a Principal Scientist to lead biomarker strategy development across neuroscience drug development programs. The role involves designing translational and clinical biomarker approaches that inform clinical decisions from early through late-stage development, partnering with cross-functional teams to generate high-value evidence.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead integrated biomarker strategies across neuroscience programs with cross-functional teams
- Define how biomarkers inform key development questions including target engagement, dose selection, and patient stratification
- Interpret biomarker and clinical datasets to translate complex findings into actionable recommendations
- Mentor biomarker scientists and provide scientific guidance to support collaborative strategy
- Communicate biomarker strategies, results, and recommendations to stakeholders; drive publications and external collaborations
Requirements
- Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent advanced degree with 10+ years in neuroscience, translational medicine, or drug development
- Significant experience developing and executing translational or clinical biomarker strategies
- Scientific expertise in neuroscience, neurodegeneration, neurological disorders, or psychiatry
- Demonstrated ability to translate hypotheses into biomarkers that inform clinical decisions
- Strong cross-functional leadership and influence skills in matrixed environments
- Working knowledge of biostatistics, bioinformatics, and quantitative data analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with scientific rigor and strategic thinking
