Job Title: QC Scientist II Job Description

The QC Scientist II provides moderately complex analyses in a microbiology lab environment within defined procedures and practices. The role involves performing analytical methods for moderately complex testing on raw materials, samples, stability, and production intermediates. This position supports internal development and/or manufacturing operations, making detailed observations, reviewing, documenting, and communicating test results while recommending solutions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct moderately complex microbiological testing of in-process and finished products using internally developed and compendial test methods.
• Execute validated test methods for Bioburden, Bacterial Endotoxin Testing, Particulate Matter, Sterility, and Water testing.
• Recognize and report out-of-specification or unexpected results and non-routine analytical and product problems; recommend solutions.
• Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation as needed.
• Clearly and accurately communicate the results of work by creating documentation of the testing/analysis and obtained results.
• Record and report results of analysis in accordance with prescribed lab procedures and systems.
• Prepare and assist in filing regulatory documents in support of internal projects, providing communications with outside departments, corporate sites, agencies, and clients.
• Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other instructional documents.
• Clean and organize work area, instrumentation, and testing materials, maintaining a stock of commodities needed for testing support.
• Perform all duties in strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and Safety guidelines.
• Maintain the necessary compliance status required by company and facility standards.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry preferred; Associate degree in Biotechnology or science concentration minimally required.
• 3+ years of related experience in a Pharmaceutical Microbiology laboratory or related field.
• Good knowledge and understanding of chemistry and analytical instrumental technologies.
• Experience with LIMS, SLIM, Trackwise, or Documentum is advantageous.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
• Adaptable and capable of working within a team as well as independently.
• Knowledge and understanding of the scientific approach to microbiological methods development and validation.
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative microbiological tests.
• Awareness of quality and regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Ability to write standard operating procedures and method validation reports.
• Ability to read and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Ability to apply mathematical operations to different testing designs.
• Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a reviewer, approver, or qualified checker is preferred.
• Core Competencies: Customer-centric mindset, accountability, and process improvement.

Work Environment

The position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations. The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time is necessary. Manipulation of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds is required, along with arm, hand, and finger dexterity. Visual acuity is necessary for using a keyboard, computer monitor, operating equipment, and reading materials for prolonged periods. Safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, nitrile or similar gloves, safety apron, and organic respirator may be required occasionally. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with on-call work approximately once every 5-6 weeks, including potential weekend and holiday work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Greenville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
