On-Site Resident Advisor

WELCOME TO YOUR CENTER! Established as a community non‑profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well‑being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. The Center is sex‑positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client‑centered, trauma‑informed care. The Center currently has over 90 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County. The Center opened Sunburst Youth Housing Project in 2006 to provide transitional housing for youth 18‑24 years old, including those with severe mental illness, HIV, or substance use. The program serves these vulnerable youth in a 23‑unit permanent supportive housing program in the East Village neighborhood near Dan School College. Position Summary Under the direction of the Director of Youth Housing Services, the On‑Site Resident Advisor is responsible for fostering a safe and community‑oriented residential environment. The On‑Site Resident Advisor lives on site , in a one‑bedroom apartment, and is primarily responsible for crisis management, enforcement of resident responsibilities, monitoring building activity, and responding to building emergencies after normal business hours. Resident Support Primary Roles & Responsibilities Provide resources and support to residents. Promote empowerment of residents and a community‑oriented residential environment. Respond to crisis situations, contacting internal and external resources in a timely and effective manner. Remind residents of resident responsibilities related to lease and occupancy agreements. Remain calm, composed, and professional when interacting with individuals who may be distressed and/or agitated by utilizing de‑escalation techniques. Record Management And Reporting Maintain accurate documentation and complete reports in a timely manner. Communicate regularly with supervisors and other stakeholders, including maintenance staff and external parties. Building Support Report building emergencies such as access, plumbing, electrical, fire, or flood in a timely manner. Help maintain the safety and well‑being of residents by reporting non‑emergency building maintenance needs to maintenance staff. Required Qualifications Education and/or Experience: Familiarity with life experiences common to youth who have experienced housing instability. Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Comfortable working in PC/Windows‑based environments. Other: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities; demonstrated competence in using strength‑based, trauma‑informed, and positive youth development approaches in service delivery; reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and auto insurance. Preferred Qualifications Education/Experience: 1‑2 years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness, foster care, and juvenile dependency systems. Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish. Other: Experience managing crises and implementing de‑escalation techniques. Work Location Live‑in, on‑site position. East Village neighborhood, San Diego. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $23.00–$23.50 per hour, part‑time, regular non‑exempt, up to 16 hours per week. Use of an unfurnished one‑bedroom apartment as credit toward wages, no rent required.
