Safety OfficerThe overall function of the Safety Officer is to develop and implement programs and procedures to continuously improve the safety culture of the company. This position will report to the Director, HR & Safety.Duties and Responsibilities:Develops, analyzes, and reports division metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvementIdentifies, develops, and delivers safety training to employees, foremen, and superintendents via on-site and classroom regarding topics such as Fall Protection, Rigging, Lead Exposure, Flagging, Lifting/Back Safety, First-Aid/CPR, Safe Driving, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.Promotes and influences safety awareness through communication and training programsDesign and implement programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease, injuries, and accidentsConducts regular on-site safety inspections of workplace environment, equipment, and practices, and provides coaching on best practicesConducts comprehensive and effective accident investigations to determine root causes, and uses the findings to recommend prevention proceduresMonitors company compliance with state and federal standards regularly, and implements plans to meet those standards when necessaryServes as safety consultant on construction planning projects when requiredDevelops and maintains emergency response plans and proceduresDevelops pre-job safety training meetings and updates toolbox talksDevelops new-employee orientation safety materialsUpdate and maintain Safety Handbook according to industry standardsDevelop and maintain JSA (Job Safety Analysis) for all job titlesEducation and/or Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, preferred4 years' safety experience in the construction industryCertifications, Licenses, Registrations:CMESH Certification PreferredOSHA 10 & 30-hour in construction certificationFirst Aid/CPR certifiedMust have a valid driver's license with a good driving record, CDL PreferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Strong written and verbal communication skillsAble to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personnel issuesAbility to recognize known/potential hazards and exposures and recommend corrective actions, if necessaryDemonstrated ability to drive change and successfully lead and implement change activitiesAbility to present and communicate safety topic training to small and large audiencesAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceThorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and standard industry practices are necessary, specifically regarding construction safetyExcellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookAbility to work independently and in a team environmentEffective critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skillsStrong and effective leadership, collaboration, coaching/training, motivational, influencing, negotiating, and selling skillsMust be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the futureMust be able to follow all company policies and proceduresAbility to respond to emergencies, if neededPhysical Demands:Ability to wear PPEAbility to sit for long periods of time while driving between job sitesAbility to walk on uneven terrainAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsAbility to climb up and down from equipment and/or terrainMust be able to work from heights, when requiredAbility to travel.
