Director, Commercial Quality-Packaging and Labeling

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a Director of Commercial Quality for Packaging and Labeling to lead operational quality oversight of finished goods packaging and labeling across a global contract manufacturer network. The role translates strategy into executable quality plans, manages escalations, and ensures compliant commercial supply while building high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

Lead operational quality oversight for primary and secondary packaging and labeling across US and UK/EU contract manufacturers
Translate departmental strategy into operational quality plans and execution expectations for the packaging team
Manage team capability development, performance management, and succession planning for direct reports
Triage and escalate significant packaging and labeling quality issues with risk assessment and resolution
Monitor operational quality metrics, trends, and KPIs; prepare governance and leadership review presentations

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in scientific or allied health field or equivalent
10+ years relevant work experience in pharmaceutical quality operations
4+ years management experience leading through managers and senior staff
Strong knowledge of global GMP/GDP requirements and commercial packaging operations
Experience with risk-based quality principles and operational decision-making
Working knowledge of packaging and labeling requirements across US, EU, and international markets
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional and external stakeholders
