Security Officer - Per Diem

Campus Security OfficerThe successful candidate will perform the duties of a uniformed Per Diem Safety and Security Officer, as well as the duties of a dispatcher.Campus Security Officers are responsible for the comfort, safety, and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson University. Security Officers maintain a safe environment and minimize the potential for loss or damage of all property controlled by Husson University by conducting high visibility patrols on foot and in University-owned vehicles, monitoring CCTV equipment, and monitoring radio communications. Officers provide a wide variety of services to our campus community, and are expected to proactively seek opportunities to provide excellent customer service.Security Officers enforce Husson University rules and regulations, the Community Conduct Code, and coordinate with law enforcement in enforcing state statutes. Security Officers recognize potential safety concerns and take measures to mitigate these concerns. Security Officers respond to disturbances and mitigate disruptive conduct, respond to emergencies as needed, and coordinate with all local, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of Husson University.Security Officers may serve in a dispatch role, facilitating communication with officers, directing them to respond to requests for service, and providing pertinent information necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson University. Security Officers also coordinate with all local, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus.Example of DutiesProvide prompt, courteous service to students, staff, and visitorsWork a part-time schedule, evenings, or overnights, including weekends and holidays as necessaryWork a minimum of two shifts (patrol shift or event shift) per fiscal quarterMust be available to cover other shifts due to absences, inclement weather, or other unforeseen circumstancesAttend and/or complete all departmental and University training requirements to include CPR/AED certification.Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies & proceduresPerform lead Security Officer duties in the absence of a supervisorMaintain complete awareness of Husson University Campus property, life safety systems, and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishersMaintain the confidentiality of all departmental and University information and paperworkBe well-groomed and properly wear the issued uniformAppropriately maintain all issued duty equipmentMonitor and operate a two-way radio utilizing proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS complianceMust have appropriate report-writing skills, as well as the ability to utilize electronic reporting systemsPatrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, theft, and life safety concernsProvides safety and traffic control during Campus eventsEnsure all necessary doors and buildings are properly securedEnsure resolution of any safety concerns noted during your shiftMonitor and regulate as necessary building systems including building boilers, as well as refrigerator and freezer unitsMonitor CCTV and review as necessary for security and investigationsAnswer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions and provide informationEnforce University rules & regulations and notify violators of infractions including the issuance of parking ticketsEscort students, staff, faculty, and visitors to various locations on as necessaryInvestigate suspicious activity, security issues, and criminal incidentsGather and process evidence and properly document it in verbal and written reportsRespond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide First Aid and CPRRespond to disturbances and emergencies on University propertyWrite technical reports to document incidents and investigations, as well as daily activitiesCoordinate emergencies until a supervisor arrives on the sceneContact the Associate Vice President of Security or designee as needed during emergenciesContact local police and fire departments as necessary and act as a liaison between these agencies and the University as neededEscort and remove undesirable persons from the CampusApprehend suspects and use departmentally approved restraint techniques as necessary, including but not limited to pepper spray, baton, and handcuffsKeep a daily dispatch log of calls, events, and activitiesCreate digital and hard-copy documents and forms as neededPerform a daily inventory of first responder keycards and mapsMaintain working knowledge and the ability to use all Safety and Security systems and technology platformsAll other duties as assignedQualificationsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school education or equivalent required. At least 6 months of security, military, or law enforcement experience is preferred. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, talk, hear, operate foot controls on automobiles and golf carts, climb stairs and use hands and fingers, and/or feel. The employee is also required to occasionally run, balance, crawl, climb, and use ladders (up to 20 feet in height), as well as push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds. The employee must also exert physical effort including foot patrol and restraint of individuals as needed.
