About this unit 9SE is a LevelI trauma and post‑operative medical‑surgical unit that specializes in musculoskeletal conditions including total joint arthroplasty, spine surgery, fragility fractures and multiple traumas. It also specializes in the care of plastic/breast reconstruction surgery. The unit is part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team supported by members including case management, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, advanced practice providers and physicians. The RN will be well prepared to care for patients with a wide variety of co‑morbidities while gaining experience with surgical patients coming from the recovery room. Scope of work The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient‑family centered care principles. Responsibilities include: Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients under the direction of the Nurse Leader. Partner with patients and families to establish goals and develop teaching strategies; document education and learning appropriately in the health record. Provide quality patient care, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. Qualifications Associates or Diploma in Nursing – required. Bachelor’s in Nursing – required within 5 years for a GN or RN with less than 1 year of experience. Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing school – must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years in a licensed health‑care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX. MI Registered Nurse (RN) – required to be licensed within 60 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) – required upon hire from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart & Stroke.
