Risk and Claims Analyst I or II We’re hiring a Risk and Claims Analyst I or II to join our Risk & Safety team! This position plays an important role in investigating and managing claims while supporting the City’s risk management, insurance, and safety programs. Depending on the needs of the Risk & Safety team, this position may be assigned to work on: Workers’ compensation claims or Property, casualty, and liability claims. The position will support the City’s risk management and claims functions through claim investigation, analysis, management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. All positions close Friday morning at 12:01am. The City of Arvada promotes Equal Pay for Equal Work. Starting salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity. The range listed reflects the entire range and typical placement is entry to mid range. Pay Range: $67,897.70-$92,839.69 Annual Salary Range: Risk and Claims Analyst I: $67,898 – $92,840 Risk and Claims Analyst II: $75,027 – $102,588 Placement at Risk and Claims Analyst I or II will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and education. Position Details Term-Limited Position: This is a term-limited position through December 2028. There is potential for the position to be extended beyond the initial term and/or transition to a regular full-time, ongoing position, based on organizational needs, funding, performance, and available opportunities at that time. An extension or transition to a regular position is not guaranteed. Hybrid/Remote Work: Following successful completion of the initial training period (approximately 90 days), this position may be eligible for a hybrid/remote work arrangement, based on job performance, business needs, and supervisor approval. Essential Job Functions Performs professional risk management and claims adjusting work on behalf of the city. Performs work related to the management of the City’s various insurance programs with the assistance of more senior risk and claims analysts. Conducts or assists with investigations of accidents, incidents, or exposures involving the City that involve or almost involve instances of personal injury or property damage. Tracks, maintains, and reports out on property, casualty, and liability and workers’ compensation claims information. Assists with running the city-wide program related to select fitness centers by tracking equipment warranties and service information, requesting service as necessary, assigning lockers, coordinating liability releases, and facilitating inspections. Assists with the compilation and organization of Certificates of Insurance received by the City from vendors and contractors. Assists the Insurance and Risk Program Director in preparation for the insurance renewals process. Coordinates with other divisions of the City Attorney’s Office, human resources, and outside counsel when necessary to seek the resolution of claims. Acts as liaison between internal and external parties in claims matters; assists in the resolution of claims. Assists with the recovery of restitution and subrogation, as needed. Responds to emergency situations as needed. Assists in loss control, safety, and injury prevention activities throughout the City. Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department. Assists with managing the division’s purchasing and payment processes; drafts purchase orders and enters invoices. Assists with conducting presentations and/or trainings under the supervision of the Insurance and Risk Program Director. Workers’ Compensation Functions Coordinates with the City’s Third-Party Administrator (TPA) on investigations of accidents and incidents related to workers’ compensation claims. Ensures the TPA assembles all necessary evidence, including interviews, reports, site investigations, photographs, and pertinent claim documentation. Oversees the TPA claims operations to ensure the efficient processing, monitoring, and filing of workers’ compensation claims-related forms and records. Assists employees throughout the life of their workers’ compensation claims. Updates and maintains the City’s workers’ compensation management information system. Property, Casualty, and Liability Functions Assembles all necessary evidence, including interviews, reports, site investigations, photographs, and pertinent claim documentation for property, casualty, and liability claims. Oversees the claims operations to ensure efficient processing, monitoring, and filing of property, casualty, and liability claims-related forms and records. Establishes claims reserve and tracks claims in the risk management information system for property, casualty, and liability claims. Coordinates with the City Attorney’s Office and outside counsel when necessary to seek the resolution of claims filed against or involving the City. Assists in ensuring compliance with the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act. Other Job Functions Responsible for properly documenting individual job-related personal expenses. Acts as back-up to other Risk and Claims Analysts as needed. Responds to inquiries from the public as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of risk management principles and the claims adjustment process. Basic knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles, workers’ compensation principles, the insurance industry, including property, casualty, and self-insurance programs. Working understanding of how to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle property and casualty claims. Working understanding of how to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle workers’ compensation claims with a basic knowledge of the workers’ compensation system. Ability to maintain composure to plan, organize, and implement procedures under emergency or unexpected conditions. Ability to exercise initiative, confidentiality and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; outstanding organizational skills. Ability to think strategically with short- and long-term objectives and results in mind. Ability to participate in continuous improvement efforts and make recommendations for general office procedures and operations. Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the City in a positive, cooperative, and professional manner. Proficient computer skills including financial systems, word processing, and spreadsheets. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. License & Certification A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required. Education Degree Bachelor's degree Education Major Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Engineering, Risk Management, business, finance or related field. Education Required An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Work Experience Related (One (1) year) Experience in risk management or adjusting claims. Work Experience Related (Three (3) years) Experience in risk management or adjusting claims. Experience adjusting workers’ compensation and/or property and casualty claims in a public sector environment. Work Experience Preferred Some experience adjusting workers’ compensation and/or property and casualty claims in a public sector environment is desirable. Other Qualifications Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification is a job requirement for employees within the City Attorney's Office. This requires successfully passing an extensive background check, fingerprinting and obtaining security clearance. Physical Demands Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal. Hazards Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
