Registered Nurse Investigator (BON #10114922) For more Job Requirements & Classification Description: The New Mexico Board of Nursing is a state agency, whose purpose is to protect the citizens of the State of New Mexico by licensing Nurses and Lactation Care Providers; certifying Hemodialysis Technicians and Medication Aides; regulating education programs for licensees and certificate holders; regulating practice; taking complaints and disciplining licensees and certificate holders who violate the law and rules. This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. Why does the job exist? The Board of Nursing Registered Nurse Investigator coordinates and conducts all investigative interviews of licensees or certificate holders with alleged violations of the New Mexico Nursing Practice Act (NM NPA) that have complaints filed with the Board of Nursing. This position will interview all appropriate witnesses, involved parties, and identify necessary documentary evidence. This position evaluates, prioritizes, and analyzes complaints to develop an investigative plan. This position prepares subpoenas and witnesses affidavits statements. This position is also responsible for preparing written investigative reports for the disciplinary board meetings and presenting updates in a brief and factual format to the board members, as well as preparing and testifying in disciplinary hearings on completed investigations. How does it get done? To investigate complaints against Nurses and Certificate Holders in regards to potential violations of the Nursing Practice Act: Develops investigative plans by analyzing complaints, prepares witness affidavit statements, conducts interviews of witnesses and identify additional documentary evidence, prepares subpoenas as necessary to obtain relevant records, prepares cases for both formal and informal disciplinary hearings. Investigate and evaluate providers records for evidence that a NPA violation occurred. Applies knowledge of injuries, mechanisms of disease process and the morbidities that cause death and debilitation. Applies expertise in the nursing field and solid understanding of the documentation process and the indicators regarding NPA violations. Conducts site visits and interviews (on site or via video or phone). During the course of an investigation will lead site visits at clinics and facilities Interviews medical personnel, victims, and witnesses. Writes reports. Prepares case reports at the conclusion of an investigation containing their findings to support prosecution in a court of law and may also warrant the investigator to testify in court as to their findings. Present information to NMBON staff in understanding medical/nursing technology and terminology. Who are the customers? The Public, Board of Nursing licensees, and Board Members. Ideal Candidate Two (2) years of professional level experience in investigations (evaluating, prioritizing and analyzing materials to develop investigation plans) in health care settings and or programs or any other investigation field of work. Compliance with reporting requirements and Statute of Limitations. Creating reports, subpoenas and witness affidavit statements for prosecution and expertise with Excel spreadsheets. Responding to dissatisfied clients. The ability to work independently. Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course Certification within thirty (30) days of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting and is not eligible for telework with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Reaching and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel may be required. Job hours are Monday Through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch from noon to 1 p.m. firm.
