Job Title: Water Plant Mechanic Department: Water Plant FLSA: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: G6 Effective: September 2021 Revised: September 2021 Position Summary Performs skilled preventative and corrective maintenance on a wide array of machinery to include engines, generators, pumps, motors at the water treatment plant and related facilities. Inspects, maintains, adjusts other associated equipment including compressors, valves, tanks, shafts, and blowers. Determines cause of equipment malfunction or failure providing suggestions for repair to include parts and supplies. Follows the City's safety rules and maintain a safe work environment. Verifies accuracy of all assigned inspection records, maintenance records and asset management system data.

- Performs preventative maintenance on a wide array of machinery including pumps, motors, generators, valves and piping systems.
- Services, repairs and replaces, motors, pumps, valves, generators, power tools and plant equipment.
- Work with manufacturer representatives, part suppliers and repair facilities.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance work on equipment containing Hazardous Chemicals.
- Follows the City's hurricane preparedness plan for emergency generators.
- Required to work extended hours during and after hurricanes or other disasters and maintains 24-hour emergency contact.
- Maintains work area, vehicles and shop in a clean orderly manner.
- Exercises intertie valves with surrounding cities to ensure proper working order if necessary, for emergency or shortage.
- Must be able to use a computer and the asset management system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attention to detail in order to prevent damage to equipment or injury to personnel.
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the City as they pertain to the performance of essential duties.
- Knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to read and understand system drawings and technical manuals.
- Ability to follow the City's safety and accident protocols.
- Knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and methodologies of water collection and treatment systems and their maintenance and repair, and other fields applicable to the requirements of the position.
- Skill in applying a responsible attention to detail as necessary in preparing reports and correspondence.
- Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
- Clearly understands any occupational hazards and adheres to all safety precautions inherent in performing the essential functions of the work.
- Ability to speak, write and understand the English language.
- Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with five years of experience in electrical or public water plant maintenance and repair.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over).
- Requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform skilled movements, as in mechanical repair work.
- Some tasks require visual, depth, texture, olfactory and auditory perception and discrimination as well as oral communications ability.
- Tasks require exposure to temperature extremes, smoke/dust, pollen, strong odors, wetness/humidity, toxic/poisonous agents, disease/pathogens, electric currents, machinery hazards, traffic hazards, vibrations, noise extremes, and insect bites.
