Overview Department 37703 Advocate Christ Medical Center - Surgery Room Status Full time Benefits Eligible Yes Hours Per Week 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information Monday through Friday, 4 10 hour shifts, call required, holiday coverage Major Responsibilities Positioning and immobilization of patient to ensure anatomy or blood vessels being examined are in the correct profile and projection. Independent selection of technical factors to ensure high quality images with the lowest possible dose to the patient. Positions patient in proper positions to radiographically demonstrate correct anatomy Obtains radiographic DSA and DA images for interventional procedures and transmits all images to PACS for interpretation by the radiologist Sets up patient on appropriate cardiac and other monitoring systems. Ability to interpret normal ranges on monitoring equipment Participates in and assists in the performance of complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures (e.g., aneurysm coiling, stent placement). Requires understanding of complex neurovascular anatomy Participates in and assists in complex interventional procedures such as de-clotting of blood vessels, UFE, venous ablations and other peripheral vascular procedures. Requires advanced knowledge of vascular anatomy Performs procedures with interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons, neuro radiologists, neurosurgeons, and other specialists Prepares patient in a sterile fashion for procedures. Maintains radiographic equipment and prepares examination rooms to provide appropriate room utilization and efficiency Prepares examination rooms for smooth performance of procedures, including equipment and supplies Assists the radiologist during angiograms and special procedures, including arterial needle and catheter insertions Prepares patient for the exam in a sterile fashion, including sterile prep and draping, preparation of injectable contrast and solutions Maintains a clean and safe work environment by performing minor daily housekeeping tasks Uses Universal Precautions to protect self against bodily fluid contact Explains examinations to patients and families; rounds on patient and family to inform progress Maintains timely flow of patients in and out of Interventional Radiology lab by assisting with patient care and transportation as required Provides information to the radiologist about patient history, previous examinations, contraindications and other related data Responds to emergency calls within 45 minutes Maintains inventory to ensure adequate supplies Records all pertinent patient information for accurate procedure charging Contributes to continued quality improvement and patient care; demonstrates excellent communication with customers Maintains positive customer relations and uses appropriate phone etiquette Promotes patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives Participates in team problem-solving to improve patient care, department operations, image quality, and employee satisfaction Development of leadership and professionalism through participation in department/hospital committees and continuing education Responsible for operating sophisticated radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality images for Interventional Radiology Operates all special procedure equipment according to safety standards, including x-ray generators, power injectors, radiographic equipment and patient monitors Assists radiologists with intervention devices and related equipment Education/Experience Required Must have attended an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered. Must demonstrate age-specific appropriateness for patients Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures with close supervision; works well with a team and communicates effectively ARRT registered Physical Requirements And Working Conditions Exposed to radiation; able to deal with ill patients; able to adjust to flexible work hours, on-call duties Ability to lift up to 35 pounds for patient handling; other lifting considerations as needed Ability to stand for long periods while wearing a lead apron Ability to make independent professional decisions and provide high-quality patient care This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected.
