Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS TNCC Must-Have Skills: Experience in managing ER holds Ability to work with various patient diagnoses Familiarity with emergency medical procedures Description: The Emergency Room consists of 19 beds, including 3 trauma bays. There is no fast track system in place. A separate triage area exists, and travelers are not required to perform triage but can if qualified. ER holds are intermixed within the ER, and ER RNs manage their own ER holds. There are 2 rooms that can be converted for psychiatric care. In-house security is available. The ER handles approximately 70-95 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 4:1. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac, gastrointestinal, psychiatric, COPD, and respiratory illnesses. The unit has one ED physician and two mid-level providers. A charge nurse is present to oversee operations. Nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters support the team. Technicians are available for various tasks. The electronic medical record system used is Allscripts. Registered nurses read monitoring strips as there are no dedicated monitor technicians. Transport for X-ray or CT is managed by radiology technicians. Portable X-ray and CT are readily available nearby. Both phlebotomy and nursing staff can draw blood. Shifts include 7 am to 7 pm, with weekend requirements every other week. There is a holiday requirement on an A and B rotation. There is no call or standby requirement for staff. Scrub color is navy blue. The cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks. The care setting is acute. This position is in the nursing division.
