Maintenance Mechanic
The Maintenance Mechanic maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial rotational molding equipment and facility systems. This role focuses on diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, performing preventive maintenance on all machinery, and ensuring safe and reliable operation of production equipment and building systems on a consistent basis.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot rotational mold equipment to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on all machinery according to the established PM schedule.
- Change out and install 3-phase motors and work safely with 480V electrical systems.
- Conduct basic PLC troubleshooting, including input/output checks and component replacement.
- Repair molding machines and keep them in optimal operating condition.
- Replace pumps, gears, valves, bearings, switches, relays, sensors, and related mechanical and electrical components.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical problems using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and component replacement.
- Perform MIG welding and fabrication to repair damaged molds and other equipment as needed.
- Read and follow blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to execute repairs and installations.
- Carry out HVAC and plumbing work as part of facility maintenance responsibilities.
- Perform general facility maintenance tasks to support safe and efficient operations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned maintenance tasks.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Demonstrate flexibility with overtime and willingness to work extended hours when required.
Essential Skills:
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with industrial machinery.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment.
- Ability to change out and install 3-phase motors safely and correctly.
- Experience working with 480V electrical systems.
- Basic PLC troubleshooting skills, including input/output diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Experience with MIG welding and fabrication for equipment and mold repairs.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- HVAC and plumbing repair and maintenance skills.
- Capability to perform facility maintenance tasks as needed.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks without constant supervision.
- Flexibility to work overtime and extended schedules, including 6 days per week when required.
- Ownership and use of personal tools suitable for industrial maintenance work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Basic MIG welding knowledge beyond core repair tasks.
- Vocational school or technical training in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field.
- Experience working in plastics manufacturing environments.
- Experience with rotational injection mold machines or similar molding equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working in hot, noisy, and greasy industrial environments.
Job Type & Location:
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Chicago, IL.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
