This position is responsible for daily oversight of the many technically complex and diverse activities performed by the Virology and Serology sections of the Rollins Laboratory. Responsibilities include leading day-to-day lab operations while maintaining technical proficiency to step in as needed, providing consultation to veterinary practitioners and producers, as well as state and federal partners; developing and implementing policies and procedures; supervision and management of laboratory section operations; coordinating all personnel functions; developing new services; and oversight of the quality control and accreditation standards. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $77,076 - $98,000 Demonstrated expertise in laboratory operations systems, including proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIMS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), accreditation standards, and laboratory quality management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and efficiency. Demonstrated proficiency in advanced laboratory microbiological techniques and instrumentation, such as ELISA, PCR, advanced sequencing technologies such as NGS, and data interpretation relevant to animal health diagnostics. Demonstrated ability to lead laboratory day-to-day operations, with practical experience in staff management, workflow optimization, and problem solving in high-throughput diagnostic settings. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to handle test procedures, interpret complex laboratory data, troubleshoot technical issues and resolve scientific and administrative challenge within laboratory diagnostic setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with staff, veterinary clients, and external laboratory partners to support laboratory needs. Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a laboratory in the assigned area, one of which is in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants seeking veteran's/National Guard preference should submit a copy of their Form DD-214, NGB 23A (RPAS), DD256 or NGB 22. All Law Enforcement positions, aviation safety-sensitive positions, and positions requiring a Pilot's License or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) shall be subject to pre-employment drug testing. All positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License shall also be subject to pre-employment DMV physicals.
