Job Description

The Overhaul Mechanic supports heavy maintenance of commercial aircraft by repairing and certifying critical mechanical units to ensure safe in-flight operations. This role is based in the component shop area of a large maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility and focuses on testing, troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing, reassembling, and documenting work on a wide range of aircraft mechanical equipment and related systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing, troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, reassembly, and final testing on various aircraft mechanical equipment and related systems, including power control units, transmissions, latches, spoiler mixers, gear boxes, and stab actuators.
• Work from diagrams, schematics, and tool lists to select and use appropriate hand and power tools, including sockets, wrenches, measurement tools, and other specialized equipment.
• Interpret blueprints and technical documentation to ensure accurate repair, assembly, and adjustment of mechanical components.
• Conduct detailed inspections of mechanical units to identify wear, damage, or malfunction and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Document all maintenance and repair activities thoroughly and accurately in accordance with applicable regulatory and internal quality requirements.
• Perform functional tests on repaired components to verify proper operation and compliance with performance standards.
• Certify repaired units as airworthy in line with FAA and DOT safety-sensitive requirements and company procedures.
• Collaborate with other technicians and shop personnel to coordinate workflow, share technical information, and maintain high-quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the component shop and hangar environments.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments safely and effectively while working on complex mechanical assemblies.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on processes, tools, and documentation related to component overhaul.
• Follow established schedules and production plans to meet turnaround times and support steady maintenance operations for airline customers.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of recent electro-mechanical assembly or repair experience using hand and power tools and working from schematics.
• Minimum of 4 years of mechanical repair experience on complex mechanical devices or equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting diagrams, schematics, and blueprints for mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to select and use appropriate tools, including various sockets, hand and power tools, measurement tools, and hand wrenches.
• Hands-on experience assembling or repairing mechanical equipment using diagrams and hand tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical devices.
• Eligibility to work in an FAA DOT safety-sensitive position, meeting all applicable regulatory requirements.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in testing, documenting, and certifying repaired components.
• Ability to work effectively in a structured shop environment with defined processes and quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferred: Airframe license.
• Experience as a helicopter shop mechanic, with exposure to gearboxes, transmissions, and similar systems.
• Familiarity with aircraft mechanical systems such as actuators, spoilers, and power control units.
• Experience in an avionics or aircraft technician environment is beneficial.
• Comfort working in a component-focused setting within a larger MRO operation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose issues in complex mechanical assemblies.
• Effective communication skills to describe repair processes and collaborate with team members.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large MRO facility within the components division building, featuring a clean, organized shop setting with dedicated sections for different aircraft system types. Initial training takes place Monday through Friday on a day shift at the main hangar building, followed by a regular shift from 05:30 to 14:00 in the components shop. The schedule is structured around a four-shift pattern, with the option to add additional hours for overtime. You work with a range of hand and power tools, measurement instruments, and specialized equipment in a controlled, safety-focused environment designed to support high-quality component overhaul work.

This is a Contract position based out of Everett, WA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $37.00/hr.
