Applebee's Restaurant Manager

Job Location: 8081 - Howell - A, 3949 E. Grand River Ave., Howell, MI 48843, USA The Manager assists the General Manager in directing the daily operation of the restaurant. The Manager ensures compliance with Company standards in all areas of operation—including product preparation, delivery, guest service, maintenance, inventory management, recruitment, training, and financial accountability—and fosters a culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap. Supervisory Responsibility Oversees operational and financial performance and human capital (hourly staff) within the location. Primary Duties Ensures prompt, friendly service according to Company guidelines. Directs overall activities and performance of staff on a shift‑by‑shift basis. Creates a culture using the Vision / Mission statement to guide values. Responds to and corrects verbal guest complaints immediately; refers all complaints to the General Manager. Prioritizes guest experience, targeting 100% table visitation. Enforces alcohol awareness on a shift‑by‑shift basis. Ensures product preparation and presentation meet Company standards uncompromisingly. Schedules staff to meet sales demands. Maintains safety and security programs per Company policy and government standards. Corrects unsafe practices or conditions. Promotes and manages restaurant organization, cleanliness, and sanitation. Performs routine maintenance and reports needed repairs to the General Manager. Advises the General Manager of any non‑routine situations. Communicates with other managers daily through the management log and shift‑change meetings. Performs all other assigned duties and responsibilities. Manages Staff Performance Promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential managers. Supports training procedures for new managers. Maintains trained staff through orientation, individual sessions, associate meetings, and Company policy implementation. Determines job assignments on a shift‑by‑shift basis. Develops a continuous development environment, conducting informal shift reviews and bi‑annual written evaluations. Assesses staff effectiveness, provides candid, fair feedback, and works with staff on development. Conducts thorough interviews. Shows proper execution of training systems as outlined by the Company, emphasizing training importance. Monitors acceptable performance and documents situations requiring disciplinary action; applies progressive discipline when appropriate. Ensures compliance with Company policies, practices, and procedures. Acts as a coach to all staff. Maintain Controls Controls cost in the assigned department. Maintains and protects Company assets. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines. Reports progress toward restaurant performance objectives at management meetings. Compiles all cash handling procedures. Executes weekly food and liquor inventories/costs at the GM’s request. Prepares and submits accurate daily paperwork to the GM. Development Develops Assistant Managers, Kitchen Professionals, and key hourly staff. Inspires cooperation and teamwork by fostering a culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap. Exemplifies customer obsession and promotes a positive team environment. Demonstrates strong organizational skills. Completes assignments and duties properly and on schedule. Sets personal and professional growth goals and action plans. Serves as a role model for managers and staff. Maintains a professional image. Develops proficiency with store‑related technology. Educational / Experience Prior management experience in a similar organization. College graduate with a two‑ or four‑year degree in Hospitality, Restaurant, Management, Business, or a related field, or a demonstrated leadership record as an assistant manager. Successfully completed all required management training and ongoing development as outlined by the Training Department. Skills / Abilities High degree of stress tolerance. Able to adjust to change quickly. Self‑motivated and disciplined. Accountable and goal‑oriented. Physical and Mental Requirements Finger Dexterity: Use of fingers for small movements such as typing or picking up small objects. Talking: Convey detailed or important instructions accurately and promptly. Hearing: Hear average or normal conversations. Repetitive Motions: Regular movements using wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Visual: Average visual acuity necessary to inspect documents or operate machinery. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out detailed instructions and solve problems involving a few variables. Mathematics Ability: Perform basic math operations with money and units. Language Ability: Read, interpret documents, write routine reports, and speak effectively before customers or employees. Physical Demands: The job requires standing and walking for 95‑100% of the shift, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating a cash register. May be required to travel by automobile to other locations. Psychological Demands: Frequent teamwork, fast‑paced environment, flexibility, and communication skills.
