Career Transition Specialist

Assists and provides guidance to separated or separating students during the prescribed service period, providing placement (employment, apprenticeship, and post-secondary education opportunities), and transition services. Establishes robust relationships with employers, community colleges, and other entities to ensure successful placements with good career pathway opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. Establishes thorough knowledge of and referrals to community-based services available to assist Job Corps graduates with successful transition into independent living. Provides positive, individualized services to Job Corps graduates and former enrollees and documents case notes that reflect services provided. Essential Duties & Job Functions: Position Summary Assists and provides guidance to separated or separating students during the prescribed service period, providing placement (employment, apprenticeship, and post-secondary education opportunities), and transition services. Establishes robust relationships with employers, community colleges, and other entities to ensure successful placements with good career pathway opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. Establishes thorough knowledge of and referrals to community-based services available to assist Job Corps graduates with successful transition into independent living. Provides positive, individualized services to Job Corps graduates and former enrollees and documents case notes that reflect services provided. Coaches’ students in regards to looking for a job or applying for college or military; assists students with job search, resume writing, and interviewing skills. Contacts students prior to separation, immediately following separation, and at least every thirty (30) days post separation to provide placement and transition assistance. Verifies employment, job upgrades, and school and/or military placement in compliance with government regulations. Develops and maintains partnerships with employers to place Job Corps graduates in jobs with career potential and former enrollees in entry level jobs. Submits a monthly report to management detailing the placement activities performed and the contacts made to include placed, not placed, and cannot locate. Participates in outreach trips to network with potential employers and school officials. Conducts presentations to individuals, youth groups, communities, agencies, schools, and potential employers to foster interest in Job Corps. Attends career and college fairs. Maintains confidentiality of student records. Assists Outreach/Admissions staff in communicating basic requirements of Job Corps eligibility to urban and rural youth, youth influencers (parents, elders, teachers, counselors, etc.), and potential future employers. Creates and maintains partnerships with One Stops or Job Service agencies in rural and urban communities to foster interagency relationships to provide and coordinate placement and transition services. Conducts 2nd quarter and 4th quarter follow-up calls with graduates to ensure they are still employed; provides additional placement and transition services as needed. Inputs active electronic case notes, a minimum of monthly, on students eligible for career transition services. Obtains placement verification documents for clients placed in jobs, schools, or military services in compliance with Policy and Requirements Handbook requirements. Provides job leads to students in transition period, graduates, and former enrollees. Maintains accountability of students and property; adheres to safety practices. Cultivates and maintains a climate on Center and at Outreach/Admissions and Career Transition Services (OA/CTS) functions that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn. Promotes student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed. Transports students off center, as needed for employment search, job interviews, obtaining necessary legal documents, etc. Tracks all Job Trade match incentive gifts inventory. Advises the OA/CTS Manager when Job Trade match incentive gifts need to be purchased. Disperses/mails Job Trade Match incentive gifts to each graduate that has a Job Trade Match prior to separation from the program. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Accountable For: Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives. Timely and cost-effective performance of duties. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, management and line staff, corporate and DOL personnel and public groups. Strong analytical skills to interpret and manage data. Ability to develop rapport and positive working relationships with all departments Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work. Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations. Adherence to established company safety policies and ability to work in a safe manner, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as may be required. Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures. Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations): Mandatory Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field; or oAssociate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field, and 2 years’ related experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level. Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract. Current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Preferred Previous Job Corps Experience. Experience in employment agency and/or human resources Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office setting and at various locations on Center.Employee must regularly walk, climb stairs and visually observe Center environment.Employee must be able to run and respond to physical altercations or other emergencies rapidly for the safety of students, Center staff and property.Employee must be able to safely operate a passenger vehicle and supervise students simultaneously. Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to be able to frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
