Essential Job Functions
An Airport Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:
  • Uses stationary and hand power tools to perform construction and repair work involving mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and painting skills across all airport facilities.
  • Operates and maintains power equipment such as tow-graders, skip loaders, tractors, tandem rollers, stake-bed trucks, crash cranes, and power hoists.
  • Makes additions, alterations, and repairs to airport buildings; may construct small portable or permanent structures.
  • Performs fence installation, runway lighting installation and repairs, drainage construction and repair, and demolition or relocation of airport facilities.
  • Mixes, places, and finishes cement and asphaltic concrete for runways, taxiways, and other airport surfaces.
  • Makes minor repairs and replacements to airport utilities including water, sewer, and electrical systems.
  • Act as a lead worker overseeing Airport Service Workers, as needed.
  • Operates and maintains crash rescue vehicles and firefighting equipment, using related tools during fire and crash rescue emergencies, as needed.
  • Provides first aid and notifies proper authorities in the event of an aircraft accident.
  • Perform the duties of an , as needed.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of airport facilities and equipment* involving a variety of minor carpentry, electrical, masonry, mechanical, painting and plumbing work.

CERTIFICATE:
A Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate is required**.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential function.


PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class 4 - Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.
