Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Athletic Trainer. In this role, the successful candidate provides support and services as it relates to the Sports Orthopedic clinical and educational programs. Implement injury‑prevention strategies, provide emergency care and first aid, evaluate athletic injuries, and implement medically prescribed therapeutic reconditioning programs in schools. Provide school sports coverage for contracted schools, which may include middle school, high school, college/university, and club sports. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and community outreach education and prevention initiatives in alignment with the Departmental strategic plan and the institution’s mission. Assist the Senior Program Coordinator Athletic Trainer and Department Director in program development and overall compliance. Job Responsibilities Provide athletic training services for contracted schools. Perform initial on‑field assessment of acute injuries and illnesses during games or practices, provide first‑aid and triage, monitor injuries/illnesses, coordinate evaluation and follow‑up, and assist athletes in implementing home exercise programs prescribed by healthcare professionals. Follow proper medical practices, use medical, social and psychological information to establish goals for athletes, review cases, conferring with physicians and other medical professionals when necessary, and maintain all equipment used during treatments. Understand and properly implement the type of treatment required by each patient, monitor and assess patient status to plan treatment, provide documentation for all treatments rendered, maintain appropriate work records, maintain confidentiality of athletic injury/illness information, adhere to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines, define and adhere to standardized nomenclature, measurement and reporting. Assist schools and school districts with the implementation and yearly re‑evaluation of school athletic policies, such as EAPs, concussion management and standing orders, working in coordination with the CMO (if school has one), school nurse and AD regarding student athlete health and wellness. Provide advice to athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding injury prevention, health and wellness, and flexibility training; assist in the preparation, selection and fitting of protective equipment and pre‑injury screening; participate in pre‑season parent/coach/athlete meetings. Provide offsite clinical services/event coverage: evaluate and treat offsite injuries and report findings to the organization/school medical team, facilitate pre‑participation exams. Reliably follow through with assignments on schedule, adhere to proper work schedule, report for event coverage and meetings at designated times, give proper notice of absences and lateness, accept policies and their modifications, and be willing to cover sporting events after hours if needed. Serve as liaison between schools, universities, colleges, sports leagues and sports organizations, work with the chief of primary care sports medicine, athletic trainer coordinator and department director to maintain existing relationships and develop new relationships. Develop and conduct various educational programs for education and sports organizations, acting as an extension of NYU Langone Sports Health through branding and name recognition by discussing our services. Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporate them into performance of duties. Other responsibilities as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited athletic training program (CAATE). Current and valid NYS Department of Education Athletic Training License. Certification through the Athletic Training Board of Certification (BOC). CPR and AED certification. Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with athletes, parents, coaching staff, school administrators and other medical professionals. Ability to manage emergency situations relevant to the position. Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, etc.). Minimum 1‑2 years work‑related experience. Required Licenses Athletic Trainer. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree from a program in athletic training, 5 years of work‑related experience. CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach), CSCCA, ACSM or equivalent certifications. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
