Deliver compassionate emergency nursing care in a collaborative 20-bed department while enjoying the Hampton Roads waterfront and Virginia coast.Travel Nursing Job Details\n \n Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing assignment\n Location: Newport News, Virginia\n Start Date: October 12, 2026\n End Date: January 11, 2027\n Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010\n Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week\n Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts\n Weekend and Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend and holiday coverage\n Department: Emergency Department (ED)\n Department Highlights: 20 beds, 15 monitored beds, 5 fast-track rooms, primary stroke center, and cardiac catheterization lab access\n Orientation: Dysrhythmia examination required during orientation; study materials are available\n Scheduling Note: Blocked schedules cannot be accommodated\n Emergency Department RN Job Requirements\n \n Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license\n At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience\n Recent Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience required; critical care experience is advantageous\n Emergency Department triage experience strongly preferred\n Current BLS, ACLS, CPI, PALS, and NIH certifications\n Ability to successfully complete the required dysrhythmia examination during orientation\n Travel nurses must reside more than 50 miles from the assignment location\n Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills\n Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and decisive in a high-volume, high-acuity emergency setting\n TNCC, NRP, BSN, and Epic experience are preferred\n Emergency Nursing Responsibilities\n \n Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan, from neonates and children to adults and older adults.\n Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, triage patients, identify changes in condition, and prioritize care according to acuity.\n Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.\n Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional standards and established policies.\n Support emergency stabilization, resuscitation, crisis intervention, trauma-related care, and life- and limb-saving interventions.\n Care for patients with medical illness, injury, behavioral health concerns, pediatric needs, women’s health concerns, and other emergent conditions.\n Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond promptly to changes in patient status.\n Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, EMS, specialty teams, transfer centers, and community agencies.\n Educate patients and families while providing compassionate, culturally responsive, relationship-based care.\n Operate emergency and lifesaving equipment, including rapid infusers, invasive monitoring devices, and other department-specific technology.\n Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, and quality improvement throughout the care delivery process.\n Delegate and assign care appropriately based on team members’ competencies, scope of practice, and patient needs.\n \n Apply now for this Emergency Department RN travel nursing opportunity in Newport News, Virginia, and join a collaborative healthcare team in the Hampton Roads region.
